Zero tolerance approach to bin collection

Recommended Posts

Families are furious about plans by a council's bin police to question them about their medical history.

Officials in Plymouth, Devon, are to send a questionnaire to every household asking them to give intimate personal details about their family.

At first sight, I was ready to dive in with you; BUT having looked at the form on the link, it's not quite as alarming as you fear. :? At least they are asking residents whether they are fit enough to wheel the bin to a collection point prior to introducing the scheme; in Warrington we were told a new scheme was starting - no consultation and no information for the unfit or infirm as to what to do to get dispensation. The bit about nappies, is possibly a public health matter and no doubt a drive against disposable nappies.

Observer

It's the part of the form where it asks for the name of the person who is legally responsible for the the refuse.. easy to prosecute then isnt it, who ever is daft enough to fill the form in is volunteering to be prosecuted...

Don't they already have that info. for council tax? :?

Peter only if there is single occupancy of the property. What this form is asking for is a member of the family to take legal responsibility for the refuse, which means that the bin police would either arrest and interview under caution (which is what they want to implement) or prosecute by default whoever's name is submitted. I guess the infractions would include putting the wrong rubbish in the wrong bin, or over filling the bin, or any other of the new bin laws.

Or could we just opt out of the stupid rule thing altogether?

If the public genuinely don?t agree with such stupid petty ?laws? then the council that we elect to run our town should have nothing to do with them.

It really should be that simple.

Bill :)

But it always follows Bill that before someone gets elected to the council they promise the bloody world to the electorate while out canvassing.

Once elected however, there is always something which stops them doing what they promised. It happens with EVERY politician be they national snufflers or local ones.

We should have elections at local level every year. That way if the buggers don't do what they promise we can get rid of them straight away rather than having to put up with them for 4 years

Baz, re. the annual elections of local councillors I couldn't agree with you more. That way the useless, do nothing ,put up to vote as told brigade would not last more than a year or they would have to prove themselves worthy of the position and try their best to help the community.

One in five homes has been given wheelie bins that have been fitted with microchips in preparation for pay-as-you-throw bin taxes, according to research by the Daily Mail.

It shows that a fifth of the town halls that collect household rubbish have equipped their bins with chips or have found other ways of labelling them.

The spread of microchips means that the number of councils prepared to bring in the charges has doubled over recent months.

Microchips or labels that can be read on dustcarts are key component of bin tax schemes which rely on weighing or measuring the rubbish put out by a home in order to sent the right bill to the right family.

The increase in numbers of councils equipping their bins with chips suggests that Gordon Brown's repeated pledges to kill off bin taxes are unlikely to be fulfilled.

Local authorities are also planning tighter enforcement of bin rules and regulations.

One in four intend to bring in stricter 'bin police' regimes against families who leave their bin lids open, put their bins out too early, or leave extra rubbish alongside them.

The policing of rubbish bins by teams of council wardens has been a cause of growing public anger.

A bus driver in Cumbria was left with a criminal record because his family left their bin lid open a few inches because it was too full, and a war veteran of 95 in Norwich had his collections stopped because he put a ketchup bottle in the wrong bin.

a perfect response legion..... personally I would lead a charge to empty my wheelie bin through the letter box of my nearest councillor.... Town not Parish PJ so no worries!!

These tinpot dictators need bringing down a peg or two as without exception they do nothing but try and ruin the lives of their constituants

Frail pensioner told she must drag her wheelie bin half a mile to get it emptied

A frail pensioner has been told she must drag her wheelie bin more than half a mile down a steep hill for it to be emptied.

And her next door neighbour has been told that he must share his wheelie bins with another family - who live a staggering two miles away.

Council chiefs have written to June Kay, 79, stating that by the end of the month, bin lorries will no longer drive up to her house to collect her rubbish.

Instead the widow is expected to make the 25-minute round trip down to the main road and leave it for the bin men to pick up.

This was on the tv news last night. The council spokesman said they were listening to residents concerns but the undertone was that it was tough titty. Just because you pay your council tax doesn't mean we have to provide a service! Sack the lot of them from PM down. OK Paul K can keep his job but the rest must go!:wink::wink:

Crikey, does that mean I'll be in charge :o:wink::D

PS Don't think we'll be having chip & bin in Warrington, on the subject of which the new large blue bins for dry recyclables will start being introduced in September, the weekly black bin collection service will remain and the blue bin will be collected every two weeks.

Great.... I'll really look forward to the delivery of the new larger blue bins.

Pitty they are not a different colour though as our access roads are already full of permenant blue, green and black bins left out all week by bone idle residents along with a large number of blue and green bins which have never been used  At least a bit of pink or yellow would have been a change

If WBC are insistant on issuing us all with 3 bins can they at least ensure that people are TOLD to take them in and where people permenantly leave them out some form of enforcement action is taken

......and if they are not being used can they please be REMOVED !

Whinge over
