Apology culture ?

What I find rather amusing nowadays is the use of "an apology", especially by politicians,  as if it's some kind of get out of jail free card. The implication being, you can do anything, even murder, just so long as you apologise after.  Well no, if you commit an offence,  like riding public transport whilst knowingly infected by the virus, your guilty and should pay the penalty - end of.    😠   😷

I think the apology needs to be accompanied by a suitable grimace/apologetic smile & a suitable defensive wave. I'm sure there must be a chart of varying degrees of hand gestures & pulled faces. MPs seem to use the look of contrition with the accompanying one or two fingered hand gesture well out of camera shot.
