Not an idea Con, a fact - ultimately HMG carries responsibilty for all it's institutions  and policies - that why we have elected politicians, to carry out our majority wishes.simple democracy, and nothing to do with communism.  What you Tories seem to believe is closer to anarchy, perhaps you should join Piers Corbin !    😉     😷

Wishful thinking and don't call me a Tory or associate me with Piers Corbyn, I don't do weather forecasts.

You do realize that ' Government imposed lockdown ' is house arrest without due process !  Only a Socialist could be happy with that, seeing that history has proved that it is the only way Socialsm / Communism can operate.

The US Constitution specifically states that ' No Citizen can be sentenced to arrest in any form without evidence of a crime."  It also states  that 'The rights guaranteed under the Constitution cannot be overruled by an emergency in any shape or form'.  Now y'all are not governed by the US Constitution, but these dudes had their shit together and taking their views into consideration is just good sense.

Good to know Obs.  ' Government lockdown' didn't imply that.

However, especially for you Obs, cos I'm aware of your keen interest in such things.  Watch carefully over the next few weeks for the real possibility that Obama could go to jail for a knowing conspiracy to derail the Trump presidency.  I know that he won't for the same reason tha Hillary Clinton didn't, they are the privileged few., however most of his cabinet may , unless they are saved by the corrupt liberal media.     Know it's a changed of subject, but who doesn't want one !  Dizzy can razz my ass for changing topics without executive approval.

Apart from the fact that I should have been arriving in Heathrow on June 2nd and leaving on Eurostar to Basel for a Rhine Cruise on the 3rd, plus no Man U, I've had a pretty good pandemic, 18 holes of golf every day, pick up meals from the Pro Shop Grill and plenty of bourbon.  We got a $1200.00 check from the government and gave it away in $50 tips to the the skeleton staff at the drive thru only joints, so my conscience is clear.

Seems Sweden, who pursued a free and easy herd immunity strategy, has now the highest per capita death rate in Europe; but sceptics will be pleased to note, that the vast majority were over 70yo.     😷

I don't know where you're getting your information from Obs. According to Worldometers.info Sweden has 384 deaths per million population, well behind Spain, Italy, Belgium, France and the UK. I think we need to wait until the pandemic has finished and all the numbers collated before judging who used the correct strategy.

Incidentally, who do you consider sceptics? People who are for or against lockdown, for or against herd immunity, for or against Boris?

Asp, it appears you need to be quite careful with what get repeated from the press: From the Independent...

"But it (Sweden) has now recorded 6.25 deaths per million inhabitants per day in a rolling seven-day average between 12 May and 19 May, according to Ourworldindata.org.

This was the highest in Europe and just above the UK, which had 5.75 deaths per million and ahead of the United States, at 4.17."

See what he did there he quoted rate, i.e per day (using a seven day rolling average). Their total is way down still as you would expect in such a sparsely populated country.

Obs described it as per capita death rate but it was actually " per million inhabitants per day " - very different.

I get what you're saying Con, it's a case of statistics can be made to say whatever you want if they are manipulated properly 😉😁

Lost all interest in this subject now.   The draconian measures were taken to 'flatten the curve' of infections, which has now, in most places, been achieved, it was not to stand still until the virus is eradicated.   Now it's just a political football, with decisions not being made not on evidence, but on the fear of ones opinions being damaged politically if wrong, or politically beneficial if the status quo is maintained.  'Death' is now being thrown around like 'rascist'  with the result that both are unfortunately, becoming inconsequential.

All of this disaster was initiated by the communist Chinese government covering their asses and the rest of the world trying to work out what to do about something that had never happened since the Bubonic Plague.   The world now knows a lot more about the virus and can plan accordingly.  However some people refuse to recognize the difference between now and day one and try to manipulate the 'statistics' to support their 'glass half empty' point of view.   Time to climb out of the air raid shelter people and shake your fist at the enemy - it's been done before.

On a bit of a slight tangent it is amazing that all the "racist" type post that were aimed at the "leave" voters or the "remain" voters during the brexit years now seem to be aimed at the "gov".

I refer to the "x number of migrants land on beach daily" type ones that crop up on faceache on a regular basis.

amuses me no end when i see them. quite a few are purporting to be by a certain Mr Farage, who seems to be flouting government advice in travelling to various parts of the coast in time to catch them arriving. I do wonder how he knows.......🤔

Perhaps Sid, because "the Gov" was elected on a platform of getting a grip of immigration,  and clearly isn't.   Farage works for LBC radio and classes himself as a journalist, so claims the right to report on what's happening, in the deliberate absence of similar reports by other mainstream journalists, who are travelling the world still.  😠  😷

Not the only ones:  Piers (the mouth) Morgan and opposition politicians are after his scalp (but he's bald !);   so much for constructive opposition.   If Cummings has committed an offence he should be fined like anyone else, but no, they are after undermining the Gov at a time when we need some political cohesion.   😷😷

Well, with the build up of pressure from the economic lobby; Boris is easing lock down and the lemmings are away to the beaches, some even jumping off cliffs apparently !       😷

you have to wonder at the intelligence, or lack thereof, that leaping off a 200ft cliff into the sea not knowing how deep the water is. not that it matter from that height it could 200ft deep but it will still hurt if you get into a belly flop situation.

from that height you would be close to 20 miles an hour on contact with the water. or sand depending if the tide was in or out. (i think)..🤔

A 200 pound person falling 200 feet would be travelling at 71.5 MPH when he dies hits the water, with air resistance taken into account.

They're getting dafter -  the London liberals were out in force in Trafalgar Square (no social distancing btw),  protesting over the black guy in the US being murdered by the Police. What they think this will achieve is completely beyond me;   think I prefer them jumping off cliffs !    😷

Even worse than i thought. Never could get the hang of these physics calculations.

Metre per second to miles per hour  or is it metres per second squared.

About the only thing i do remember is that acceleration due to gravity on the earth is 9.81 metres per second or per second squared whichever it is.

not really something i would use in every day life. just basic adding up and take away with the odd bit of multiplication thrown in and occasional division was what i was taught in school when i were a lad. These days they have Chinese and Indian take aways. No wonder kids are stressed out....🤪

Once you let the first sheep out of the pen, the others will follow -  same with people, as BoJo's early release on lock down shows and I can't see him putting the genie back in the bottle.  Meanwhile the "experts" range from one extreme to the other.    Ryanair have offered advise on avoiding quarantine when returning to the UK ,  just give a false name and address and they can't check up on you - joke.         😷

I have to admit that I don't have the foggiest idea whether the lockdown should be ended immediately or extended infinitely, and all positions in between. I do know that I wouldn't want to be the one to make the decision because whatever the decision someone will condemn it as tantamount to mass murder. We are cursed with too many outspoken experts, none of whom will admit to ever being wrong.
