Wembley bound - again!

Recommended Posts

What a difference a Ratchford makes. Stefan Ratchford returned from injury - probably earlier than expected - and played his part in a good all round team performance against an in-form Hull side that started as favourites in the Challenge Cup semi-final at Bolton. Charnley was missing through injury but Warrington were much improved on recent performances.

Wire opened the scoring on 7 minutes with a try by Bryson Goodwin and, although Hull then took the lead with a penalty followed by a converted try, another try by Currie converted by Ratchford gave the Wire 10-8 advantage at the break. Another try by Toby King early in the second half, again converted by Ratchford, took Wire further ahead and, although Hull came back strongly scoring another converted try at 67 minutes, Philbin scored an opportunistic try on 79 minutes, also converted by Ratchford, to seal a much needed victory for the Warrington Wolves.

The Warrington faithful were loud in their support for the team, and there were  few of the errors that have marred recent performances. Let's hope we can keep this level up for the rest of the season, and bag a trophy! Come on you Wire!! 🏆

Yes we looked a far more balanced side with Ratchford back.

A good workmanlike performance doing all the little things right and three scoreline took care of itself.

A great atmosphere in the ground with both sets of supporters being loud but like the team performance,  the barmy army were slightly louder!

Wembley here we come!!

A good game to watch, very few handling errors, despite the change in the weather or maybe because of it. Very little for the ref to do and a quiet day for the video ref as well.

Another plus was that Robbie Hunter "I'm going to wander all over the pitch prattling during the game" Paul was heard and not seen.

Despite his best efforts to find fault even Jonathan Davies had some grudging praise for Warrington at the end. (Well he had been quiet for most of the second half and i suppose he had to justify his fee for being there.)

Despite being an ex Warrington player, he doesn't seem to like us very much does he 🤔.

Probably because he wasn't good enough and the fans let him know in their inimicable style. He's had a downer on Warrington ever since.

As if Wire fans would say anything derogatory about one of their players (Note: tongue firmly in cheek) 🤣.

Looking forward to my trip to Wembley tomorrow and for once I have zero expectations for us.

I just hope we put in a good professional performance like we did against Hull FC and see where that takes us...

C'Mon the Wire!!

Here's hoping for a positive result for us at Wembley for a change.

What a brilliant day. As I said above we went with zero expectation and that's what made this victory so much sweeter.

Daryl was out of this world and thoroughly deserved his Lance Todd Trophy and the team as a whole played very well and had more desire than Saints.

Goodwin's last ditch tackle epitomised this desire and that was the difference between the sides.

Well done the team and coaching staff.

As one of the commentators said at the end "there was no one stand out performer for warrington it was a team effort with each member of the team performing at their best"

Even the Welshman had one or two words of praise for them, grudgingly said and with  many references to the disallowed St Helens try ."the referee got it wrong boyo" being his main contribution for most of the match.

Handling errors didn't help St Helens either, not sure what the final count was but close to the twenty mark with Warrington not even close to double figures.

It really was a strange final. Saints wanted to open the game up & we wouldn't let them & we couldn't open the game up as we would have liked.

A classic example of defence helping to win games ,well done to all at the Wire & thanks for a great day out.
