Cyber ransom -

Recommended Posts

There's a Police forensic lab in Warrington, part of a Euro wide Corporation, that has had a cyber attack, knocking out their computer systems until a ransom is paid -  seems they have paid up;  but are the Police capable of dealing with this type of crime ?

on that evidence er no.

However was it the Warrington lab that was attacked or was it the Euro wide corporation that was attacked, of which the police lab is just a part?

Was it the Warrington lab that paid the ransom or the Euro wide corporation?

Need to get the facts straight on these things. From your post it is unclear.

Cyber crime being a "fairly recent" emergence in the crime scene, it leaves the police trying their best to get up to speed on dealing with it, something that police have had to do with all crime at some time as new methods of lawbreaking evolved. A case of until they know about it and how it was done then they cannot come up with a plan to counter it.

Surely in this day and age there must be someway to trace the ransom paid.

I know it hasn't happened yet..

But in the name of sanity there has to be a trail to follow !!!!

Sid, it was a Eurowide attack, that infected the whole corporation.

So it would have been better to say that there was a euro wide corporation that has suffered a cyber attack, which a police forensic lab in Warrington is a part of and affected by. The corporation then paid the ransom demanded to free up their systems.

The way you put it  could be misconstrued as it being the Warrington lab that was the first to fall victim of the attack which then allowed access to the rest of the euro wide system and was at fault. (unless it really was the Warrington lab)

Ambiguity is statements is what leads to sensationalist headlines "freddie starr ate my hamster" springs to mind.Never happened. "warrington nurses 'off their faces' after eating cannabis cake". Never happened. (But it sells newspapers i suppose)

I'm coming round to the idea that if you read something in  a newspaper (Gary's esteemed publication excepted) or hear it on the TV news, if it isn't entirely fabricated, you should treat it with a large dose of scepticism 😏.
