So what colour are they?

(sorry could not resist temptation with that statement.)

As you say their attitude when it comes to information does not do them any favours and invites "brown envelope" comments. (or whatever colour they are) 🕵️‍♀️ :D

If councillors are as dim as confused52 says, maybe they get their bungs in sacks with the word SWAG on the side.

I tried my hand at building a multi billion pound business several times and failed so I know nothing, yet I wonder why the need to build such a facility when there are empty ones around town already, the facility behind Tesco on Winwick Rd jumps to mind.

Someone with more intelligence then me care to enlighten me.

If they build new buildings then they can offset that against taxes by showing a smaller profit. Also it is easier to start with a blank site than to have to remove existing infrastructure and replace it. (cheaper as well).

Why would you have to remove existing infrastructure, a warehouse is a warehouse, I have been to and worked in enough of them.

As for the traffic, yes Winwick Rd does get congested but most of the time it is not so bad.

Why was it allowed to be built there in the first place?

Was thinking along the lines of plumbing lighting and other electrical supplies to various areas. Modifications to buildings to accommodate required access for staff and vehicles plus parking for same. Use by another company of a building would entail at least some of these even if it was just a huge empty roofed over space. A lot of the time it is simple with minimum adjustments having to be made. Think of it like trying to fit a double bed in a room that has previously housed a single bed. the floor space may be adequate but what needs to be removed to allow the transition etc.

Seems our council's decision makers and of course Clr Maher who voted to approve despite not even knowing where it was have hit the big screens over the farce of the Stobarts approval ...well ok so only youtube for now.... but i'm sure a feature length box office smash hit film could be made out of all their goings on and cockups from over the years.
Must remember to book my front row ticket with reclining chair and popcorn

It is a warehouse not a production line, unless your running some sort of specialist operation or vehicles.

I don't understand what modifications would be required to a site like the one behind Tesco which is a purpose build RDC

Yes, but built to some other firms requirements.

think along the lines of redecorating a house you have just bought. It may be perfectly well decorated but not your tastes so you redecorate.

Or you could liken it to having a shiny new council offices when there are plenty of perfectly adequate office spaces available that only need a minimum fettling up.

Exactly,

Each company has its own procedures but the operation is  the same. A tesco warehouse looks exactly the same as an Coke Cola one and it works in exactly the same way

Often these logistic companies take over contract that include the warehouse but they don't build new buildings each time.

I understand peoples' objections to this development. However have the people making the objections any opinions on the two solar farms (at York and Hull) purchased by WBC? The Stobart development calls for 15.7 Hectares of land while the total for the two solar farms is 133 Hectares. If there are no objections to the solar farms, is this because they're on the other side of the country, out of sight out of mind? Someone else's green and pleasant land being covered by an eyesore? Just asking.

I'm sure you know more about this than I ever will Milky, but don't you think that Stobarts will, with any eye to the overall cost of such a project, have looked at existing properties first? I mean it is a large company with expertise in warehousing, and won't want to waste money building a new warehouse for no good reason if cheaper options already exist.

I am guessing the reason is tax, as pointed out by Sid, I will write and ask them, see what they reply.

Asda also had a new RDC.
