Milky Posted August 1, 2019 Report Share Posted August 1, 2019 I tried my hand at building a multi billion pound business several times and failed so I know nothing, yet I wonder why the need to build such a facility when there are empty ones around town already, the facility behind Tesco on Winwick Rd jumps to mind. Why would you have to remove existing infrastructure, a warehouse is a warehouse, I have been to and worked in enough of them. As for the traffic, yes Winwick Rd does get congested but most of the time it is not so bad. Why was it allowed to be built there in the first place? Modifications to buildings to accommodate required access for staff and vehicles plus parking for same. Use by another company of a building would entail at least some of these even if it was just a huge empty roofed over space. A lot of the time it is simple with minimum adjustments having to be made. A tesco warehouse looks exactly the same as an Coke Cola one and it works in exactly the same way Often these logistic companies take over contract that include the warehouse but they don't build new buildings each time. However have the people making the objections any opinions on the two solar farms (at York and Hull) purchased by WBC? The Stobart development calls for 15.7 Hectares of land while the total for the two solar farms is 133 Hectares. If there are no objections to the solar farms, is this because they're on the other side of the country, out of sight out of mind? Someone else's green and pleasant land being covered by an eyesore? I'm sure you know more about this than I ever will Milky, but don't you think that Stobarts will, with any eye to the overall cost of such a project, have looked at existing properties first? I mean it is a large company with expertise in warehousing, and won't want to waste money building a new warehouse for no good reason if cheaper options already exist.
