Observer II
Rather comical scenario coming up for the new PM - 1. the EU has stated that the May deal is the only one on offer and that failed to get through Parliament three times. 2. BoJo and Co, say we'll leave by the 31st October, with or without a deal; with a Parliament determined to block "no deal"; so perhaps Parliament will need to be closed. asperity
Well if the Government can't agree a deal with the EU for which it has the backing of Parliament, then there is no deal and we should leave on those terms (as we should have done in March). The EU bureaucrats have had long enough to agree with a package that will have the approval of the British electorate and they have failed, so goodbye EU and good luck on your own without us watching your back. Observer II
Agree with you Asp; BUT, Parliament will continue to sabotage a clean break from the EU, and imo needs to be by-passed by extending their recess passed October. I don't think the EU want to keep us in any further as we'll continue to be a thorn in their side. We may think BoJo is a buffoon, the question is, whether he's got a spine. Evil Sid
stallard when you look at the other candidates it is not a surprise. I would not trust any of to be capable of looking after a stray cat let alone a whole country.😿
Observer II
What's quite absurd about this "election", is that it's taken on the style of some kind of Presidential process, when, as we've seen from the previous PM, they are at the mercy of Parliament. P J
If you had any doubts about the character of Johnson watch this interview. What a nasty piece of work and that’s putting it mildly https://youtu.be/fj686CmGGSA
Observer II
As long as he gets us out by the 31st Oct - but that could be a lie 😉 btw, we don't have a vote in this.
Davy51
What puzzles me is the need for televised debates when the only people with the final votes are Conservative party members & not Joe Public.
P J
The only way we will be out by 31st October is crashing out without a deal or accepting the deal the EU offered us, it’s like choosing between drowning or burning .

More interesting watching the village idiot competition, although the level of debate is generally much more sensible in that. 🤦♂️🤪

Observer II
Whoever gets elected doesn't change the Parliamentary arithmetic - the Remoaner majority won't allow a no deal Brexit and will vote down any Leader that tries it, in a vote of no confidence; which will lead to a G/Election and the opportunity to clean out Parliament one way or another; or perhaps take us back to square one ! Davy51
That's why no deal needs to be on the table to try & manipulate a better deal than Treesa capitulated to.
