Stallard12
Is this irony or what? Most of the people who castigated Margaret Thatcher for allowing the coal mines to close, are the same people who would today, be castigating her for NOT closing the coal mines. Apparently, if you are a conservative, you are not allowed, by liberal law, to ever be right.
asperity
Stallard you have pinpointed the hypocrisy of the left. This apart from the fact that the Labour government closed more mines in the 5 years 1965 to 1970 (211 mines) under Harold Wilson than the Conservative government between 1979 and 1990 (11 years, 154 mines). But the left don't ever let facts ruin good propaganda .
Stallard12
Maybe they'll remake Brassed Off, praising her for being a visionary environmentalist !
Observer II
An amusing concept Tex, but alas, not done for enviromental reasons, but for political and economic reasons.
Stallard12
Wasn't commenting on the merits or reasons for or against, just on the irony. People A in an uproar about pits closing, now same people A in an uproar about pits staying open.
