observer
- his Castle ? Seems a 78yo has been charged with murder, after stabbing to death one of two burglars, he found in his home. Would imagine it'll take a jury less than 5 minutes to find him not guilty.

Davy51
It is disgraceful arresting this pensioner when the burglar was the person who took the screwdriver into his victims house with at least the intention of striking fear into the homeowner. The bloke got what he deserved.
algy
Unfortunately the police had no option other than to comply with the law and arrest this hero!, as the old saying "the law is an ass". Thankfully the chap has been released on bail. On last nights news they reported that he had been defending his wife who has dementia and was terrified. Well done that man!.
Latchford Locks
If 95% of the population were in his shoes they would have done the same. He wants congratulating not arresting.
asperity
As Algy says, the police have no option other than to arrest and charge him. Now the circumstances will be fully investigated and the findings passed to the CPS who will decide whether to proceed or not. If the police don't cross the T,s and dot the I's, then they're not doing their job properly.
observer
Just wondering why they didn't use a lesser holding charge like manslaughter ?

Evil Sid
If for any reason they did not follow correct procedure then the person could end up wrongly convicted. By arresting him for a murder charge they can then investigate all aspects properly according to set procedures. Also if they ever catch up with the second scrote who invaded the house they can get a proper conviction on him/her/it without any legal challenges from the defendants lawyers saying that he was frightened for his life and traumatised from seeing his mate killed before his eyes. observer
We've now moved on to the absurd situation of the dead burglars family, trying to maintain a shrine at the site of his crime - you just couldn't make it up.
asperity
And to the even more absurd situation of the police allowing it to happen. There is eventually going to be an escalation of the situation with the gypsies confronting the locals. The police should have nipped this in the bud straight away but now they are going to have to sort out a potential riot. Good for their overtime I suppose?
