Cornish Pasty -

Recommended Posts

Seems the Yanks want to export "Cornish" pasties to the UK, as well as Cumberland Sausage .  They've even won a first prize at the Annual Cornish Pasty fest, with a pasty that includes pineapple.   Should we guard our dishes ?

Is it any better than the original with the addition of pineaaple? Does their Cumberland sausage have more/better meat content than the original? If their product is better why don't they produce their own names for them?

Think they're after the "iconic" names Asp, such as "Scotch" whiskey.  Noticed the Italians recently got recognition for the Neapolitan Pitza !     :D

they could get round it easily enough if they called  them "Cornish style" pasties.

as original pasties were made with a savoury at one end  and a sweet at the other then the addition of pineapple could be said to be more original than the cornish pasties we are used to today which are just fancy looking potato and meat pies.

When you think about it, there's a wealth of possibilities for "patents";    Yorkshire ? Pudding;  Lancashire? Hot Pot; Irish? Stew;   Pontefract Cake ?  Blackpool Rock ?  Might come in handy if we move into a period of protectionism !
