Solar Panels shine on a record 8.75 gigawatts

The antarctic ice cover is increasing year on year actually. And the arctic ice, which melts and recovers annually, is floating so makes no difference to sea levels.

How many floods have we had this year Geoff? Oh that's right, it's been a bit dry hasn't it? It's called "weather".

Having watched the Dino Week-end (CH19): It certainly provides a sense of perspective. The planet has been evolving over billions of years, continents have moved, climates have changed, with periodic extinction events, caused by ice ages, volcanic pollution and of course the now famous asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs and 65% life on earth.  None of these changed was preventable, creatures had to adapt or die.  Mankind imo, needs to concentrate on the threats he can deal with, starting with over-population in a world that hasn't the resource capacity to sustain it.

Well you've got your work cut out then - and your suggestions are?

Here again you are making the mistake of looking at changes in recent times. I went to our excellent museum a couple of weeks ago and was fascinated to see the display showing the location of Warrington in times past. Millions of years ago Warrington's present location was south of the equator. My point is that the earth and its atmosphere are dynamic chaotic systems. You only have to look at the Met Office's pathetic attempts at long range weather forecasting, using £millions worth of advanced computing power to come up consistently wrong conclusions, to realise that we actually know very little about what is going on. The attempts by our so called leaders to remove more and more of our hard earned cash in the name of fixing problems that nobody can say with any certainty actually exist are nothing short of criminal. They should all be hung from their expensive windmills.

I read it in an academic paper yesterday - you used the expression yourself in a way - "year on year".

Just WOW!!! I used the expression "in a way" by saying something completely different? Really, is this what passes for common sense in your world of "academic papers"?
