Gary
Well you would think so reading most of the newspaper headlines. Wonder if the Brexiteers will ever admit that voting to leave Europe has had a drastic impact on the economy? It's all very well saying that if the media promote doom and gloom it will create a recession - but may be for once they are actually printing the truth!!!! I have had lots of people telling me things ain't as good as they were before the vote - just hope things settle down before Christmas or it is going to be tough out there!!! Of course I still don't think we will completely leave Europe - just be part of a different set up once all the dust settles.
Davy51
But we are told that unemployment is down, consumer spending up & world wide customers queuing up to trade with us once the deed is done. Not to mention our current Euro chums desperate to trade with a post Brexit Britain. Nothing will change apart from ridding ourselves of restrictive, non elected bureaucracy trying to meddle in the sovereign affairs of the UK. We are on the up & things can only get better.
asperity
I don't know where you're getting your news from Gary. Even the BBC and the Grauniad are struggling to put an anti Brexit spin on things recently.
observer
How many more times do I have to remind folk, that we are still in the EU. Thus, any tangible downside being felt is not being relieved by our membership; and is being caused the intangible of speculation in the financial casinos. If there is cause for "doom and gloom", we should be looking at the global economy, which is in decline. Clearly their is no loss of faith in the migrant community, as they are still piling into the UK more than ever.
Dizzy
I have had lots of people telling me things ain't as good as they were before the vote - just hope things settle down before Christmas or it is going to be tough out there!!! In what way are all these people you know saying things ain't as good as they were before the vote? You can't simply say it's 'not as good' you need to be more specific. Is it because of the field of work/business they are in? Is it because their suppliers are suddenly charging more and blaming it on Brexit? If it is increase in suppliers costs then how do they know it is really because of Brexit and not because some suppliers are jumping on the band wagon and blaming Brexit when really it's just an excuse to raise prices to make them more money. Perhaps some people/businesses are simply not doing well at the moment and wouldn't have been even if there had been no vote but because there has been one they think that is the reason.
Davy51
I am sure in years to come & once the ink is dry, Britain will have a golden opportunity to return to pre Common Market farming methods that were the envy of Europe & many other countries until destroyed by the CAP in favour of subsidised & inefficient European farming methods. Not to mention the British fishing industry that has been badly affected by EU membership.

And not forgetting the legion of EU gravy suckers who are still embedded in all levels of our government, who are foot dragging at best and actively trying to scupper the economy at worst.
Evil Sid
All i have to go on is our local spar which will shut on sunday. Only for two weeks though while they do a revamp to make it bigger and recruit more staff for when they start 24 hour opening. One of the petrol stands removed so they will only have four pumps instead of six, a bigger revamped post office offering more services and opening slightly longer hours. That is only the stuff i know about. Make of that what you will.

Evil Sid
Footballers, highly paid prima donnas, break a finger nail and they have to be stretchered off the pitch. Wouldn't last thirty seconds in a rugby game. First tackle and they would be in intensive therapy for six months.

observer
Seems, Owen Smith has shown his true colours: he's now talking about another referendum prior to the Gov being allowed to trigger Article 50. Sorry Owen, we had a vote, you lost, so get over it - let's just hope you lose the one against Jezz.
Davy51
This bloke seems to be a snake in the grass Obs. He seems to be one of these MPs who support any cause to get elected, but he seems to have forgotten that many working class Labour supporters voted to leave. observer
Seems the LibDums and Smithite Labour are determined to scotch Brexit, threatening another referendum or a General Election based on Brexit; their theory being, that with the 48% plus some Leave folk having second thoughts, they might win. Problem is, I don't think many Remainians would thank them for another referendum and once Article 50 has been triggered, I believe there's no way back anyway.
Sparky71
Shouldn't we now be hovering around Apple with promises of post Brexit goodies in the same way as the Irish are trying to woo the bankers from London to Dublin.
observer
Interesting development; the Irish have pursued a policy of low corporation taxes for some time now, in their own employment interests (can't blame them for that). But now they've learnt who the real bosses are in the EU, and are being told to rake in the tax. So, yet another reason for us to exit to independence (and the pursuit of our National interests - for a change).

Bazj
So a good reason for Eirexit? didn't they try that a few years ago but were told by Brussels that they had got the referendum wrong and to try again until a more "correct" result was given
observer
In our so-called "global" economy; multi-national corporations can play one country off against another on the issue of tax rates. Now, the EU is making a stand, BUT, the EU is not (yet) a global body, but a super-national one, and has already upset other states, like the US, over this issue. So given that a globally agreed solution isn't possible in a world of national self interests; it would seem that some other way of dealing with the international private sector needs to be found. Freeborn John
In the same way that Britain has been resigned to putting far more into the EU coffers than ever came back our way, certain of our Euro chums have become used to sucking lots of money out and putting very little in. With the second biggest contributor to the EU grand giveaway heading for the exit, belts may need to be tightened. My heart bleeds.
Steve Parish
didn't they try that a few years ago but were told by Brussels that they had got the referendum wrong and to try again until a more "correct" result was given We saw our favourite Irish comic at the Edinburgh Fringe and he was just baffled by Brexit. "We voted the wrong way, realised what we'd done, and just did it again" (with added expletives). And pointed out that their referendum was under EU rules about truthful claims - and the UK had opted out of the EU rules on referenda! Then came up with a host of illustrations where the UK does things different from the rest of the EU (so the idea that we were "controlled" was nonsense). Most of his act is more domestic stuff! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIEHv9CBPsI At a stage near you, 18 Sept: http://www.epsteinliverpool.co.uk/whats-on/jarlath-regan---arseways.aspx
observer
So did he invent a new take on "free movement", or the fact that we're net donors ? Notice the Remainians are still spitting their dummies out over the vote, holding marches to stay in - pathetic.
