observer
.... and you know Cyprus will veto Turkey joining the EU, and that no EU pressure will be brought to bear on them; aside from the fact that the EU is currently in negotiations with Turkey on a deal to stop the migrants on the S/East Front in return for visa free travel, which merely exchanged Syrians et al for Turks. So there are still 80 Albanians in our prisons, perhaps those were the one's I saw fighting on TV news last week ? ! Get real.
P J
and no matter what, Cyprus won't budge, get real. They have tried to join for 30 years and all of a sudden its a forgone conclusion because we are having a referendum. Stop the lies, its humiliating. Wow a whole eighty prisoners, overwhelming. observer
80 is your figure, and they're still in OUR prison system according to you ! So they haven't been deported? ... and you know "Cyprus won't budge" do you? In which case, they'll veto the proposed deal with Turkey to give them a visa free travel concession to all EU countries, including Cyprus - I don't think so. They'll be bought off with OUR money by Brussels. But keep going with the speculation, as the only facts available are 1) Turkey and the Balkan basket cases have applied to join the EU. and 2) Turkey is currently demanding visa free travel throughout the EU as part of the deal; or it will turn the migrant tap back on. Davy51
Unless Turkey relinquishes its claim on Cyprus there could be some pretty heated arguments in the Euro parliament in which both Turkey & Greece were sitting. Mutual intransigence could completely gum up the workings of the parliament with tit for tat vetoes.
P J
Turkey has been trying and failing to join the EU for over 30 years yet the Trumpeters put out posters saying that they are joining, this in turn scares the bejebus out of all their most fervent acolytes and gets them frothing. Turkey are no nearer joining the EU than they were 5 years ago. Have you anything but conflation and half truths and myth and lies?

P J
I admit there are advantages of belonging to the EU, I recall our lorries being stuck sometimes for weeks at European boarders before Schenger, Italy was one of the worst, but you need to weigh up advantages over disadvantages and in any case the UK does not belong to Schenger. . You don't even know what the agreement you are spouting nonsense about is called, and much less about how it works and what it governs. Davy51
Hasn't human rights been a big issue stopping Turkey from joining ,especially their attitude to the Kurds ? I believe Croatia has political issues too that has slowed its EU entry down.

observer
Just in case it slipped past you PJ; EU tax-payers will be forking out a £6billion bribe to Turkey, to turn off the migrant flow through their country into the EU. Added to which, the Turks are demanding visa free travel throughout the EU as part of the deal; thus substituting Turks for Syrians et al; not too difficult to grasp even for you. So not joining the EU then and pray tell, how will an easing of restrictions to Turkish citizens movement within the Schengen area affect the UK? ( you left out that bit for effect didn't you?) observer
They've applied to join the EU - fact. The clue is in the demand "VISA FREE" travel, throughout the EU, nothing to do with the, now defunct, Shengen; but keep trying. Astute observation Dave. P J
well here is a quote from the BBC Turkey's parliament will block a deal with the EU on migrants if Turks do not gain visa-free access to the bloc, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says. Access to the EU's passport-free Schengen area was a key demand by Turkey in an agreement struck in March. But the EU says Turkey still needs to meet certain conditions, including changes to its terror laws, before access can be granted. now off you trot and find me anything that says that Turkish people will be allowed to cross freely into the UK under this agreement, which incidentally is still unsigned. observer
Bit out of date, given (in practice) the shengen zone no longer exists. Again, the clue is in the bold type "gain visa free access to the bloc". Failiure to secure a deal will obviously mean the Turks will turn the migrant tap back on; so I guess the EU are between a rock and a hard place; hence the need for Brexit. observer
Well if you delete all the outside, non British interests, the list gets smaller. Then delete those in receipt of EU funding, which they can't even work out is OUR money in the first place. Then the TU element, who's failiure to protect UK workers in the workplace has led to a pitifull reliance on EU law, which is enshrined in UK law in any case. So a list of rather biased interests.
