observer
No, you were talking about a rout and defeat; just to give you an idea what a "defeat" looks like; google - the fall of Singapore, Bataan & Corrigador; Kiev and Smolensk encirlements; Stalingrad, Tunisia and the Falais pocket, where Armies were lost completely. P J
So the only defeats at war result in the total destruction of one side? Hence the saying, we may have lay the battle but we can still win the war. The BEF and their allies were routed by a much superior German army and they fleas to Britain via Dunkirk. I simply replied to your pathetic attempt at a snide comment regarding the French by saying they fled arm in arm with the Brithish in 1940. It is fact and no matter how many we managed to evacuate doesn't alter the fact that we were forced back to the sea. The whole army was routed and quit the field. observer
yawn: not "routed"; evacuated. As for the French, they were a small part of the French Army, the majority were overrun in the battle for France, and it's ultimate surrender, so they were defeated and quit the war; prompting Churchill to order the sinking of their remaining fleet in N/Africa, to save it being used by the Germans. So we fought on, the French State didn't, they quit the war.
P J
They were evacuated after the rout and what happened to some of the French army is irrelevant to my statement you seem to find so insulting to your absolute belief that the British were somehow glorious victors in 1940, they werent

asperity
Seems that people on here have lost interest in the referendum, preferring instead to refight battles of 70 plus years ago. I'm going to run out of popcorn at this rate
observer
Nice one Asp Just shows how ignorant you are PJ; all equipment would have been rendered useless to the enemy, standard practice; no doubt it probably had scrap value though ! Still, carry on googling.
P J
Nope it was abandoned and utilized by the German army. You need to do your homework and not carry on guessing
observer
Done the homework years ago: the Germans captured and used some French Char B tanks; most British equipment will have been destroyed as standard practice, and in any case, enemy weaponry would have been of no use without suitable caliber ammunition supply. So scrap value only. next - ?. btw: notice you've given up on the EU topic, nothing left to google ?!
P J
They left the ammo too you balloon.

observer
Errm no ! I made a tongue in cheek quip about the French "quitting"; your humour by-pass then took over, and the testosterone kicked in. So perhaps you can return to the topic of the EU, if you've got anything left.

It was you who brought up the war and you have been pulled and shot down on your own specialist subject, you ought to google more. But for the sake of Entente Cordial, I accept your surrender but don't be telling me what to speak about as we both know the victor names the terms
