Gary
This seems to have sparked a lot of controversy on social meida http://www.warrington-worldwide.co.uk/2015/11/13/mr-smiths-site-to-become-winter-wonderland/ Not sure why - having a kiddies fun fair and grotto on an empty site at the gateway to the town is surely of benefit to the town centre and attracting people? sadako
I haven't heard about this. Who is against it exactly Gary? I think it is a lovely idea. I can't see why people would be against it. It is something a little different, it attracts people unto the town and the kids will love it! Sha
Well it certainly didn't take long for the owners of Mr Smith's to start raking in on the ashes! Still no news on those who set the place alight? How very strange!
Dizzy
How do you know the owners are making any money from the winter wonderland fair Sha? Maybe Silcocks just asked them if they could use the land for a few weeks and they said yes. It is xmas after all (or will be)As for what happened to the kids suspected of setting it alight...no idea and yes it's strange that nothing else seems to have been mentioned recently. Sha
I don't think a fairground will look out of place at the gateway to Warrington! Quick & Easy, Cheap & Nasty!I'll be going elsewhere to a nice Christmas themed market.

Dizzy
Good point Obs although it has got all that solid fencing round it now.
Dizzy
What type of wonderland are you in Diz? Sometimes I'm not too sure Sha but at the end of the day it's just a piece of empty land now that's being used for a car park at the moment (£2 a day by the way but not sure if many park there). So what if Silcocks stick their winter wonderland fair on it for a few weeks or pay/not pay the land owner anything. At least they have Warrington roots. Could be worse, a whole load of travellers and caravans could descend on it over xmas

Dizzy
Close to the new Bridge Street Quarter too. Town centre, bars and clubs, shops, new market, new cinema etc etc all right on their doorstep. They would love it there
Evil Sid
Fairly busy road outside, would that be safe for kids? Given the usual gridlock status of that road it would provbably be safer for the kids than their own street

Could be worse, a whole load of travellers and caravans could descend on it over xmas Silcocks isn't the issue Diz. It just seems a bit sick to me that the owners of the now derelict site, having been at least negligent in protecting the Art Deco building are profiting so soon on the town's lost heritage. Re your last sentence; what's happened to your Xmas spirit? ..................................................... Dizzy
Yeuch no, can't stand the stuff. Saying that I've only ever had one sip a real ale and I spat it out, that one taste was more than enough
sadako
If I owned the land then I would try and profit from it too. Don't see what the fuss is. I heard that some of the profits were going to charity. Gary, can you confirm this is correct?
Evil Sid
warrington disability partnership as reported on here in the charity section. http://www.warrington-worldwide.co.uk/2015/11/18/charity-to-benefit-from-winter-wonderland-at-mr-smiths-site/
Dizzy
Did anyone go to the opening night of the fair then ? It's very colourful although it could be a little bit distracting as you drive past at night seeing the large swinging ride all lit up and wizzing round in the air. That one looks scarey
