observer
Seems the Manchester Area will be getting £15million from Gov, to start up a 24/7 GP availability prog. Back to supply v demand arguments again, but with a finite number of GPs (assuming a 40hr week), surely they will still only be able to cater for a limited number of appointments? Davy51
It's even more amazing how much the "intelligent" people who believe in these smoke & mirror schemes are paid.
Evil Sid
assuming fifteen minutes per patient that would work out at 160 patients per working week per doctor or 32 per working day. working three doctors over three eight hour shifts that would be 96 patients every twenty four hours. extend that for the 24/7 service and that would be 672 patients per week. observer
Errm not quite Sid; it's more to do with Doctor - Patient ratios. If GPs work a 40hr week with no overtime, there is a limit to the number of 15min slots they can manage (40 x 4 sessions = 160); whether they pack them into Mon - Fri, or spread them out to 7 days. So unless they are going to increase the number of GPs, this exercise is simply Bovine Scatology.
