observer
Precisely the " nature and demands of the job"; because they're under-staffed and over-worked in the NHS; many Doctors are moving to less demanding areas of the profession or the world; but that's a resolvable issue; if we had Governments that could see and plan beyond the next election. We are short of trained medical staff, so short in fact, they're now talking of reducing the time training for Consultant positions, so lowering standards in their normal knee jerk manner. There's also a question mark for the tax-payer, in respect of paying for the education and training of recruits to the Australian Health Service. Kopecks is merely a turn of phrase for Boris and Vladimir, who can earn five times or more over here than they can in E/Europe.
asperity
This started out as a thread about education and is now about the NHS. Are you a Liverpool supporter Obs? YAWN.
observer
Think if you retrace the thread Asp; it went astray with the reference to UKIP !

observer
A few bob there for cash strapped public services, if they were taxed at 90%plus !
P J
Nah, just abolish inheritance tax so that the money gets locked in for generations
observer
If they taxed them properly while they were alive, there wouldn't be much to inherit !
P J
So a 90 odd percent tax rate for the rich, do you believe they will pay it or will there be a mass exodus to warmer climes for tax purposes? I agree with taxing the rich more but that rate is stupid
observer
Think after WW2 the rate was around 84%; helped build the welfare State. Warmer climes? Don't think we'll miss pop singers or footballers for that matter - non-essential.
P J
They are small fry in the wealth department. If you try to tax at that stupid rate you will lose money not gain, and as for non essential if you are going down that route there will be an awful lot of things going which enrich our lives . P J
So in a nutshell you are both for and against political interference , depending upon who the government are targeting
observer
revenues and budget allocation are it's normal function, this would apply to all services incl the NHS; operational control is a different matter entirely.
Bazj
There are a lot of statistics being banded about on this thread, so I'll share one of my own. In a recent survey, 6 out of 7 dwarves said they weren't happy......
Evil Sid
but only 1 in 7 said they were grumpy........
