observer
Errm, who's argueing with that? I'm certainly not; I see no reason why we can't have a federation of regions like Germany, which seems to work well over there.
asperity
Gman, unfortunately we have been saddled for too long with a political elite who ride roughshod over the wishes of the people. What you say may be true but it is only going to happen if the politicians see benefits in it for THEMSELVES.
observer
Interesting possibilities arising, following the SNP's referendum defeat: a surge in membership and a surge in support; which means Labour could be wiped out in Scotland and Alex could return to Westminister and become Ed's Deputy PM ! Wonder what conditions he would place on forming a coalition?!
asperity
Alex isn't leader of SNP any more. Please try to keep up
observer
Errm, I didn't say he was. Won't stop him standing for the UK parliament though, if he wants to and leading their parliamentary group.
asperity
If he isn't leader of his party how can he "place conditions on being part of a coalition"? Unless you mean that he will defect to the Labour party, not really likely is it?
observer
He could be the leader (if elected) of the SNP group in Westminster, thus empowered to negotiate on their behalf. Think they've already discussed the possibility as Nicola has ruled out a pact with the Tories, but indicated they could co-operate with Labour. asperity
So the SNP are giving up on the Scottish Parliament altogether?
Bazj
So the SNP are giving up on the Scottish Parliament altogether? yes... they are now planning a new approach; they are pushing for independence for England, Wales and Northern Ireland instead! observer
Errm, the Scots Parliament is a Regional Assembly (they would call it National Assembly); which they want to turn into an independent national parliament. In the meantime, Scots MPs can be elected to the UK Parliament (currently most being Labour). It's not difficult to imagine the leverage the SNP may have in a hung UK Parliament.
