Davy51
Life is pretty carp in the waiting room but i suppose even something like the internet is a Godsend to many elderly people. It just shows what insular lives we lead when we don't even know our neighbours apart from the odd critical glance or when the gossip mill is running. observer
Apparently the Minister who's pointed to this "national shame" is married to a Chinese woman, where he's obviously noticed their culture of looking after parents within the family. However, even in China, things are changing; their "one child policy" has produced a generation of bachelors, who will not have kids to support them in their final years. The "singles" demographic in the UK is now quite significant, and with everyone retreating to their "bubbles", TV seems their only source of communication.
