This is what the EU Justice Comissioner has to say about benefits to migrants:

http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_SPEECH-13-1025_en.htm

So it's up to our own government to apply the rules that already exist to limit the benefits available to migrants, not just pay out on demand.

Call me Dave, is busy trying to appear tough on immigrants; with his latest 3 month restriction on benefits - sorry Dave; too little too late: they shouldn't be getting any benefits at all.

Interesting prog on BBC2 tonight, presented by Fergal Keane; showing the true extent of what is, by any standard an immigration shambles. Case 1: an ex-Indian Army chap, who was trafficked over here at a cost of £7,000; but finished up sleeping rough and alcohol dependent. He at least had the IQ to seek deportation back to India, but it took 9 months of Home Office red tape to finally get him on a plane. Case 2: Indian, overstayed his student visa, then disappeared into the population. Sleeping rough and with a drug addiction, which he funds by shop lifting, averaging £150 per day. Been convicted of shop lifting 9 times, his last sentence being 18 weeks jail; only problem is, automatic deportation can't take place unless an illegal immigrant is sentenced to more than 24months - crazy or what?  Case 3:  Lithuanian married couple (EU members!); homeless, jobless and convictions for drug offences; funded by thieving. Both claiming job seekers allowance as single individuals; finally got private rented accommodation, funded by housing benefit. And the luvvies claim there isn't a problem.

I think blame is a stumbling block , but some politician will eventually have to take the bull by the horns & say enough is enough & defy Europe ....stop people coming in & deport wrong doers. Whoever does will be a national hero.

That's quite shocking Obs (although some will obviously say that's only 3 people so proves and shows nothing)

Merely the tip of an iceberg Diz: the prog was filmed solely in Ilford; and included a Charity Centre that helps feed and cloth a queue of such people (probably part funded by the Local Council ?!). What seems annoying (if this was indeed the case), was that the woman in charge was aiding and abetting illegals, and of course ensuring they got legal aid too; when imo, they should have been reporting these characters to the authorities. Having said that. the current law and the lethargic nature of the relevant authorities, just adds to the complexity and delay in deporting these people. Fergal Keane estimated there were around 600,000 such cases in the UK; but again, that's the problem - no one knows - not even the Government, as they don't have a system for "counting out" those who overstay their visas; hence they just fall off the radar. Even when they do appear on the radar, when caught shoplifting and are detained; no system exists for their immediate deportation if their sentence is less than 24 months. This is hampered anyway; by a recourse to HR law supported by tax-funded legal aid, and the 10 year backlog of asylum appeals. Breweries and drinking sessions spring to mind.

Wasn't that always the rule?

Now we have a record number of illegal immigrants entering Europe, via Spain, Italy and Greece.  Those caught are held in camps in those countries, but we never hear of them being deported back to their country of origin. What seems to happen, is that somehow, some manage to make their way to Calais, with the intent of reaching the UK.  It appears the EU and national authorities just aren't taking the issue seriously. As a Libyan Naval Officer said; Italy hasn't sufficient Naval vessels patrolling the coast and won't fund anti-immigration operations by the Libyan authorities.

The problem with the countries in the front line of immigration into Europe is that they are not giving asylum to these people when they arrive like they are supposed to ,or deporting them to where they came from. It is easier for the front line countries to just give directions to Britain so when the UK population is up in arm over the number of immigrants coming over it looks like we are the perennial whingeing bad guys of  Europe.

And the sooner the better.

Dave, the vast majority of these illegal immigrants are "economic migrants", in search of a "better life"; they only play the "asylum card" once they get here in order to avoid deportation. The inefficiency of the system, with a huge backlog of cases, means they could be here for 10 years awaiting a decision; by which time, they could start a family over here and then "have a right to a family life" via an appeal to the ECHR.

Just remind us Obs, what % do asylum seekers make up of the total of immigrants, if you can't answer I would be glad to help you out

That's just the problem Lt.

NOBODY knows how many illegals are in the country, and NOBODY knows exactly how many pseudo-legal europeans are here either.

Not only do the government not know how many illegal immigrants there are in the country they now admit they don't know how many young Asian men have left the country to join ISIS to learn how to kill and possibly put their new found skills to use on UK nationals when they return.

Can't the passports of these known Isis fighters be electronically revoked making them stateless & unable to get back to the UK ?

Probably Davy, but no doubt we would have an army of doo-gooding lawyers opening offices in Syria and Iraq in order to protect the human rites of the fighters who were made stateless and demanding that fighters from other countries be allowed to come here to have some kind of family life..... and do you know; the sad thing is that it will probably happen too!
