UKIP under attack.

Seems the liberal elite in the political class and the media, are out to strangle UKIP at birth, to prevent them upsetting the cosy status quo. So, instead of attempting to attack their policies; we're seeing a campaign of attempts to smear Farage & Co; by playing the man, instead of the ball. Whilst the recent Bloomer did them no favours, it was clearly hyped up by the PC media out of all proportion and out of context. Having checked my dictionary "slut" actually refers to a slovenly person, and was used in the context of an informal discussion about house cleaning. However, a desperate media went on to delve into Nigel's schooldays and the absence of "blackfaces" on a policy mag - pathetic or what? One of the attractions of UKIP imo, is that they are outspoken, especially on issues that the political establishment wish to sweep under the carpet and veto with public correctness. Hopefully, the British public won't fall for this assault by the liberal elite; and the pathetic nature of it, will actually result in a backlash against them.

Get real Obs, he is only being attacked as any politician is attacked, if he can't hack it he choose the wrong profession, odd when one of the liberal elite is attacked you are all over it, and normally the first to post on it, how things change when one of your hero's is attacked.

Stop blubbering !!!

All politicians are liable to personal attacks, usually some grubby journalist digging the dirt to discredit them. That's the nature of the tabloid press. However, what we're seeing here, is a concerted assault by the supposedly objective TV Channels, as exemplified by CH4's Michael Crick. We're also talking about reports from a Party Political Conference, which should provide the public with the opportunity to hear the policies of the various Parties. This media campaign amounts to an attempt to silence a political viewpoint, that resonates with the public but not with the liberal elite - clearly a perversion of democracy. Hopefully, the electorate won't be fooled this time.

Certainly don't; and it's obvious at this stage UKIP can't pick and choose yet. Unfortunately, with all Political Parties, any bandwagon will attract careerists who frankly have no belief in any cause but their own advancement. Ironically, one of the attractions of UKIP, is that they aren't generally "proper" politicians and rough diamonds that aren't obsessed with being all things to all men, and shrinking behind a PC straight jacket. However their value isn't in the fact that they will gain Office (if ever); it's in the fact that growing electoral support shifts the political stance of the other Parties on the major issues of immigration and the EU, especially in this new era of hung parliaments. What the main parties don't seem to recognise, is that there is a general public cynicism and disaffection with politics and politicians generally, and UKIP provides a platform for protest; which hopefully will bring the political class down from their ivory towers. However, judging from Millipede's latest pityfull gem, that Labour will force companies to employ apprentices for every foreign worker (NOT stop foreign workers getting in in the first place), getting them down from their ivory towers could take a while !

I'm confused as some reports suggest that by 'foreign workers' he just means those from outside the EU.

Is that right as surely most of the foreign workers over here come from within the EU so would companies still be able to employ them without having to take on an apprentice and like Asp says surely the apprenticeships would have to be offered to EU bods too as presumably they would be breaking some sort of daft EU law the law by saying they had to be given solely to British workers !

It all just sounds like a pre election sweetener to gain votes and nothing will ever come of it as I can't see how it would work.

Good points made by Observer. I agree that the media (dominated by the liberal elite) appear to be taking UKIP on, as if to prove it is they, the media, that decide on the political agenda and not someone with an opinion that differs from their own. Michael Crick and his assistants were rather rude to an equally intolerable Godfrey Bloom, and these antics took the media limelight away from UKIP's party conference and their opportunity to put forward a couple of policies. Mr Bloom was hounded that day, called Geoffrey and Mr Godfrey by people who knew exactly who he was, as they'd been waiting to ambush him all day. If we're not careful we'll end up with even more Student Union leaders dictating our political agenda and even more self-determination being given away by people who will never be affected by their folly. Give real people a chance to air their views.

If UKIP want to be taken seriously they should expect to be examined by the media, they have not be treated any different from any other mainstream party, if fact I think it's laughable the Obs started this topic, as when the media have had ago at other political parties he posts in glee on here about them, but when it's UKIP, something close to his heart all of a sudden it's wrong. If

UKIP want to be a credible alternative, what the hell were they doing with people like Godferry Bloom, and Neil Hamilton in the party in the first place, and letting Godferry Bloom any where near the media was a big mistake, they love him as he does not no when to stop digging.

Kije, there's a clear difference between attacking a Party's policies and trying to discredit individuals. The BBC did the same thing with Griffin on Q-Time, not one argument about their policies, just mud slinging. So I think we can deduce from this, that the lovies just haven't got the counter arguments that resonate with the majority of folk, thus they have to play the man instead of the ball.  As for Labour's pitifull attempt to curry favour with voters; posters are right: an apprenticeship policy can't be applied against EU workers. As for non-EU workers, no problem with allowing in required skills, providing it's on a time limited visa. As for "apprenticeships"; if the last Labour Gov had spent as much time on vocational training, as they did trying to cram youngsters into mickey mouse degree courses at university; we may have had the skills we require by now.

Obs take a look at the political forum on here and take a look at some of the threads you yourself started on said forum. What in fact you are saying its ok to do it when they are attacking people or parties I do not like, but when it comes to parties or people I do then the Liberals are taking it to far. get a grip, If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen.

Stop blubbering, You should be grateful they are taking an interest in him, he might actually come out with some policies now other than immigration, and making populist remarks about the NHS.

We need foreign workers Obs, it's a fact. We cannot stop them, we need to train our workforce first, we can only stop companies employing them if we have either a suitable candidate, or someone to work the crap hours for the low pay.

a} what skills does one need to pick fruit or to pack boxes in a warehouse? Something which our own indigenous workforce were more than capable of doing prior to the open floodgates of the last Liebour government?

b} Make your mind up.... first you tell us that employers cannot break the law and pay less than the minimum wage and then you tell us about crap hours and low pay.... you can't have it both ways.

Personally I would say that some unscrupulous employers (although mainly governed by agencies who actively seek east European labour instead of concentrating their efforts to recruit over here) are taking advantage of the situation and deliberately lowering the pay scales for all workers by bringing in the foreigners.

Hopefully someone will sort this mess out and get us out of these EU laws that are unfair to British workers both skilled and unskilled as the difference in living costs between here and say Bulgaria are massive so a skilled person can come here and earn more packing boxes than they can make using their trade at home.

If the EU really stood for equality; they would bring in a Europe wide minimum wage and that would kick the playing field back into our favour instead of theirs

What skill do we need in the NHS Baz, it would collapse if it was not for foreign staff.

There have been foreigners working in the NHS almost since its' inception. West Indians, Jamaicans, Indians, Pakistanis and a lot of ladies from the Philippines  all came to work in the wards as cleaners, carers and doctors. Those people were from the Commonwealth and old Empire countries by and large... I would argue that there are very few Eastern Europeans working in the NHS compared to the others I have listed

Hang on a minute Kije; think you'll find that the threads I and most other posters have raised on here, have been about issues, and the ability or otherwise of political parties to deal with them. A far cry from the attempted censorship of certain views, however popular, by parts of the media and the political establishment; in the interest of preserving their cosy status quo. As for our reliance on "foreign" labour; aside from the insanity of Labour's opening of the flood gates to EU workers; part of the reason for their employment is that indigenous workers (over 2 million) prefer to languish on benefits, rather than take these jobs. Perhaps a system of UB that is conditional on taking these jobs when they become available, would mean we could re-employ all our own workforce first?

An immigrant is an immigrant Baz regardless of where they come from

Obs

Take a look at your threads, most pulled from the Liberal Lovie press as you like to call it. The press are just showing who is filling the ranks of UKIP, is it you don't want people to see who and what make up UKIP, are you trying to divert attention. If UKIP have nothing to hide they have nothing to worry about. You just want people to look from afar, and not see the crap that is UKIP. Sorry if they want to be taken seriously people need to know who makes up UKIP and their views. That is part of the presses job to inform and report, you can't claim fowl because they are looking critically at something beloved by you, especially when you have used the same press to have a go at the big three in the past. The word Hypocrite springs to mind

Clearly not the case Kije; EU citizens have an open invitation through EU Treaty arrangements to move freely throughout the EU; and the only way this can be ended is by leaving the EU.  Non-EU citizens enter on the basis of permission as stipulated in their visa; whether visa conditions are strict enough or in fact policed at all, is open to debate. Finally, there are the "illegals", who have illegally entered the Country, or overstayed their visa; who tend to apply for asylum if caught; thus dragging their cases through the courts at public expense; and for extended periods due to the UKBF backlog. So what's required is a system of instant deportation, if and when caught; but that would no doubt require our exit from the ECHR.
