A fourth Coronation Street actor has been arrested on sexual charges, could this lead to the demise of the long running series? Guilty or innocent, one wonders how many more of the cast will find themselves accused.

who has been arrested now?

I wouldn't have thought the discovery of a few alleged villains within the ranks of one of its flagship programmes would prompt ITV to ditch it.

Wasn't thinnking so much of ITV ditching it, well not till viewing figures dropped because the public stopped watching because the sexual allegations.

ITV aren't responsible for the personal lives of their employees, just as other employers aren't. This trial by message board is becoming increasingly tiresome.

I beg to differ. Just to quote one instance - Lynne Perrie (alias Ivy Brennan - Tilsley that was) was fired from the series for having cosmetic surgery on her lips without consulting the producers.

I don't see this as 'trial by message board'.  It is merely a reflection of the news headlines of the day.

No-one has suggested that this person is guilty and from my viewpoint, people are innocent until proven guilty.

Apparently, this actor's/character's name was a household one in the 1960's.

Exactly Sheila.

And it couldn't be Albert Tatlock because he is dead and even in the 1960's he was a grumpy old sod even in every day life so I couldn't imagine it being him.

I'm taking bets on who you think he is.

OMG! Philip Lowrie (alias Dennis Tanner). Bill Roach (alias Ken Barlow) we already know stands accused. Wasn't too many young men in those days and I think all the older actors have all died. Then again there was the actor who played Ivan Cheveski, the pole married to Linda Tanner (Elsie Tanner's daughter).

You do have to be careful though. Look what happened to Len Fairclough; he was cleared of all crimes against his accusers in the 1980's but he was sacked anyway and died 20 years later homeless, penniless and alone....

At 70 years old I should think he is retired now Sheila but it doesn't say he was a banker. It just says that when he moved to the US he worked as a croupier and a manager in a casino for 13 years.

Now I am pondering who I missed. Fifty odd years is a long time to remember. These days I can forget after only fifty odd minutes.

Sheila... ignore Kije; he seems to think that terrorists caught on camera and caught in the act deserve money wasting on them by having a trial.... even usually law abiding citizens caught speeding are presumed guilty and "sentenced" in their absence by post and told to pay up

Got them, i think. Alan Rothwell alias Ken's brother David Barlow.

Ken Farrington alias Billy Walker.

Bill Kenright alias Gordon Clegg.

Kenneth Cope alias Ged Stone.

Harry Hewitt but he could be dead now

Arthur Lowe alias Leonard  Swindley but he could be dead too.

Well Cleo, as you probably don't get to watch all our TV over there I thought I'd just mention that Corrie has just won best soap in the 'British Soap Awards 2013' and bagged another 7 wins too (for various other stuff).

I'll leave it upto you to decide what that means or to make further comment :lol:

Errmmm...  are you suggesting that some/all of the people you have named could 'allegidely' be guilty of 'similar' offences  Cleo.  ??

No my dear. Not suggesting anyone guilty of anything was listing the names of the young Coronation Street actors of the 1960's because in an earlier report I read another one had been arrested but it turned out to be Neville Buswell who went to live in the US, and obviously wasn't arrested but accused. As no name was given previously was talking about who it might have been. And saying it could only be one of the younger actors because the older generation would all be dead by now.
