Home Ownership

clue:  A decade ago there were 89000 buy to let mortgages. Now there are 1.42 million.

Because if you move and want to rent out your home either your mortgage company might insist that you switch to a buy to let, or you might have to do so in order to free up your own borrowing capability to buy somewhere else.

I seriously doubt that there are 1.42 million Russian and Greek oligarchs in the country - and they wouldn't be needing to borrow the money to buy properties anyway!

You really are struggling here aren't you Pete. Why would a bank force a buy to let mortgage on somebody who is renting out their own home and the renting somewhere else to live. Why would somebody who was renting need to free up borrowing capabilities. The fact is that buy to let investors, be that one extra house or many are what are making the figures what they are. Why do you find this so hard to accept?

Ps you still haven't told me who bought all the properties built in the last 10 years if we still have the same amount of individual owner occupies as we did in 2003
