So you're saying there will be a lot of layoffs in the ambulance and nursing sectors once this is implemented?

Ah that's the million dollar question dizzy, and despite 44 pages of a thread which has been running for a year and a half, neither Rod nor anyone from the 20s mental group are prepared to designate what they feel is residential. And why? Quite simple really - see the latest post from Rod - he claims to have support for his cause, but he doesn't, he has support in the area many have stated here, truly residential streets, mainly I imagine in the minds of most people, cul-de-sacs and side roads, not the likes of Long Lane or Lovely Lane. But as long as 20s mentalers ignore requests for

I have to admire your unending obtuseness, stubborness, and ability to at no time acknowledge the valid concerns of every poster on this thread, while simultaneously claiming the backing of everyone here, despite there seemingly being agreement with your proposal on just one single solitary point (ie. that this could apply to only full residential roads, not through roads). And you wonder why you have no popular support?

It is indeed 'bollox' Baz. When I lived in the Isle of Man, residential streets there had a 20mph limit imposed across the island in about the year 2000-ish, (these were of course proper residential streets, not RodK's 'any street I can get away with it' residential streets), and of course absolutely no dispensation emerged from insurance companies, even island specific local insurance companies who would be only too aware of the change in local driving conditions made no allowance at all. So as you say, as indeed with the fuel consumption saving red herring, it is in fact utter boll

And yet Rod still maintains that the (largely) impossible is perfectly possible. Even if a car is to be driven in 4th gear at 20mph, it will be labouring, and a labouring engine also uses more fuel. Amazing though for a man with his background that he insists on talking nonsense on this particular strand of the discussion.

Thanks for the link Dizzy, so Cromwell Aveneue is "residential" is it and slated for 20mph? What complete and utter nonsense, and will see wholesale and widespread speeding if this is implemented.

Rod, why do you keep trotting out that survey? It's doesn;t support your appeals for a widespread 20mph limit, it supports a 20mph limi9t on residential streets. We've already established that to you, "residential" is ludicrously any street where there's a house, that is not what people understand as residential. But again, this is something you're trying to regurgitate having lost that argument months ago as if we all have the memory of a fish.

Which unfortunately seems to include the entire council, and that's who counts.

Of course the actual accelration is but a small part of a journey, whereas travelling in a lower gear at 20mph will more than outweigh the savings from the loss of accelaration, but then that's not quite such a friendly soundbite eh Rod? Of course been a while since this has been brought up, so Rod once again takes everyone for an idiot, and thinks if he keeps repeating the same rubbish people will start to believe him!

It does seem bizzare, indeed completely perverse, that someone so in favour of the safety merits of the 20mph speed limit, resorts to quoting statute when safety is raised in other areas not relating to 20mph. Surely statute determined that the roads Rod has browbeaten WBC into making 20mph should be 30mph? Or maybe, Rod just never cycles down Knutsford road?
  11. Nobody mentioned box junctions yet?
  12. Surely if it's "illegal", his/her retirement or otherwise has no baring whatsoever? Or, if I kill someone and then retire, it is ok now?
