A Telegraph Reporter witnessed a French Naval Vessel shepherding a migrant boat into British territorial waters -  instead of "rescuing" them and returning them to France.

funny i mentioned something similar in an earlier post in this topic.

  2. You know as a kid i was always wondering why he was called hamburger gessler. it was only as i got older that i found out the real name was land burger gessler...🤭

I always felt sorry for the guards in those shows. Every week those poor lads would come rushing into the room waving their swords and such around only to be killed off by the hero, even when it was ten to one in their favour. Make you wonder why anybody would want to be a guard in those days.

Am I getting a "Grey Moment" or was the theme tune the same as The Lone Rangers ?

how to tell a cultured person. They are the ones who can listen the william tell overture without automatically thinking "HI HO SILVER AWAY!"....🤣

  3. I am happy for you stallard. even brexit is taking a back seat to this virus over here on the news.

If you read the news pages on here you will know that we had fifteen new cases in a week in warringon alone.

Have lost two friends this last month. One was an old friend of the wife's who was just in her seventies, cause unknown by me at present and one was the secretary of our bowls club who passed away last week who was in his ninerties. again cause unknown by me. both could have been natural causes or may have a tenuous link to the virus.

as for anybody else i would not know as i am taking very few chances being in the "at risk" category and also having two brothers who are now in the same "at risk" category. Result being that i do not go out unless i have to, not that i went out much anyway.

  4. Ah robin hood. "dah da da dada dah da da daaah, sproing whoosh boing," and cue the music. they do show that on talking pictures as well on certain days.

They do quite a few of the old series that used to inspire us kids to go out and try and maim each other with home made bows or swords made from pailings nicked out the fence Then there was the likes of ivanhoe and lancelot which was responsible for many a mop or brush to go missing to be used as a lance along with the bin lid as a shield.

Some of those games between us kids would make the battle of Hastings seem like a re-enactment group picnic.....

  5. watched miss robin hood the other night.

Margaret Rutherford was the main star but a host of,now, familiar faces in supporting and minor roles. James Robertson Justice playing his usual loud villainous roll

sid james as a cabbie. reg varney as a copywriter and Dora Brian as a barmaid.

a silly comedy but worth the watch if you have nothing better to do.

  6. Managed to speak to my sister who seems to think that donald was either ernies son or his youngest brother.

She also seems to think that they were the owners of elwells scaffolding firm in warrington.

The only people that she can remember running that off-license was a family called moors whose son was called chris.

spoke to my younger brother as well and he has it in his head that the person that ran the offlicense beofre the moors took over was an elwell. how correct that is though is open to question.

still working on any photo's but that may take a while

There is a donald elwell on face book that my sister swears is the one from alcard street. i would not know as my facial recognition is only slightly better than my memory for names.( which is none existant at times).

hope this helps in your search.

  7. Historical accuracy? when has that ever mattered in a Hollywood film, or even accuracy of any kind.

According to hollywood the americans have won every war they have ever fought in against all-comers from across the galaxy and beyond.

They have to be "seen" to be doing the "right"thing when it comes to pandering to whatever the latest "politically correct" trend is. last year it was women actors, this year it is black actors, next year it will no doubt be chinese actors.

no doubt at some future event it will be black female transgender chinese dwarf cyborgs or something similar......

  8. Not been able to get hold of her yet. been busy with brothers hospital visits but will try today she was supposed to come over but not sure if she is still self isolating or not.

Will have a look through my collection of pictures to see if i have anything. Not an easy task as over the last fifty odd years i have amassed quite a collection and i those days cameras were classed as a luxury item.

The only Dougie i remember from then was actually Douglas Fairbanks, yes that was his name, his family had a couple of harlequin great deans which he took for a walk. funny really as they were taller than him  when he was between them he could not be seen.

I think our politicians ' best achievements are agreeing their annual pay rise ,finding jobs for the boys & making sure they have lucrative careers to pursue when they retire or get booted out.

Oh, and never giving a straight answer.

Why does that statement remind me of the spanish inquisition sketch from monty python.....🤔

  10. Can remember a donald elwell from alcard street but could not say if he or anybody of the family still live in the area.

I lived and grew up in wilson street until i got married in the 70's

When i was around six or seven we moved across the street and our back yard was the one on the corner behind your parents off license.

if i can get in touch with my sister i will ask her as she tends to know that sort of information.

  11. Did notice that she had passed away.

I always remember her in the avengers from my youth think just about half the young male population of the time had similar feeling latch.....🥰🥰

Did also see that Alan Minter has died as well only 69.

  12. So what about those families that ten or more kids how will it affect them?

Mind you it could be a good excuse to shift the "travellers" from illegal sites or generate a few bob toward legal proceeding to shift them....🤔

Wonder how long it will be before the "I TOLD YOU SO" brigade start shouting the odds in parliament. (be interesting to see how much the "expenses" bill comes to this year)..🤨

  13. wonder how the domino league will sort that one out.  four players and two refs all sat round one table the rest of the team confined to a six foot distance.

Could work if they all wear masks and sip their beer through a metal straw. Dominos could be dropped into a cleaning solution after each game and dried off before being used again.

Mind you would then take about a week to play a game considering the speed at which some players place a domino down......🦥

  14. What their personal opinions are do not concern me, my only worry would be can they stop the leak and how much is it going to cost me?

They could be dressed as one of the village people for all i care as long as they were competent (well except for the cowboy one of course)....🤭

  15. I cannot help but wonder at the way the gov imposes the quarantine restrictions for various countries.

People coming back from a country on the latest list for qauranteening before 4pm saturday do not have to self isolate for fourteen days.

Those arriving back after 4pm saturday do have to self isolate for fourteen days.

How strict is that rule. Is it taken rom the time your plane touches down or is it from the time your feet touch "uk soil"

a plane that lands at 1 minute to four will take about ten minutes to get to the terminal at the fastest so do the people on the plane need to self isolate or not.

Splitting hairs i know but what is the difference between getting back at ten to four and ten past four from the same country on the list as regard self isolation.

Both sets of passengers will present the same risk but only one set will have to self isolate, the other being free to spread the infection.

To my mind when a country is added to the list then self isolation should begin on that date and not a week later.

I was thinking non seriously urgent cases such as broken fingers, bad cuts/burns, vague aches and pains/rashes etc etc

And use a mini bus ??

I mean Runcorn is only round the corner,

Perhaps a notice in the a&e department pointing out the availability of the shuttle bus and live waiting times for treatment at halton  with the message that it was an option to non urgent cases could be arranged.

The last time I was in A&E I was seen right away, and was given tea and biscuits! Mind you it was in a very quiet hospital in Stornoway so might not be a fair comparison 🤕.

is that the one they show on BBC at dinner time before bargain hunt?

  17. it's a matter of transporting the patient.

If they are to be moved to another hospital then it usually has to be done via ambulance. Be it a standard ambulance of one of the smaller ones. occasionally they will use a taxi firm for non-urgent cases and that all costs money unfortunately. What budget it comes out of i do not know but i suppose that they reckon that a patient sat for four hours in a warm environment waiting to be seen is more cost effective than getting them to another place that "could" see them quicker. after all the cost of heating is the same no matter how many patients are waiting.

Of course i could be totally wrong, it would not be the first time or the last for that matter....🤭
