Eagle
A large number of travellers caravans have turned up on Culcheth Village Green
Dizzy
Is that the bit opposite the shops where the children's play area is/was ?
Eagle
Yes, the playground is still there but I don't think it will be in use tomorrow. The Police and local councillors are in attendance and it is thought that the caravans will be there for a few days.
Dizzy
Good going if they are only there for a few days. Can they be moved on quicker from village greens or right near shops/play areas then ?
Bazj
Send in the Tanks......
algy
You don't need tanks Baz, just a visit from a couple of officials from the Inland Revenue and the Immigration Department offices!

Eagle
They moved to Silver Lane but it musn't have been to their liking, they are back in Culcheth next to Taylor Industrial Park.
Dizzy
Front page news today... amongst other things it says "....It is understood they are heading for Silver Lane, Risley where they will stay until a suitable site can be found for them." So does that mean a suitable site around here or somewhere else ?http://www.warrington-worldwide.co.uk/articles/18715/1/Travellers-invade-village-green---news-update/Page1.html
Dizzy
It seems they are not the only group either (unless these are part of of the others and they got lost)Cheshire Police Alert email from yesterday afternoon This is a message sent via Cheshire Police Alert. This information has been sent on behalf of Cheshire ConstabularyGood afternoon, I can confirm that approximately five travellers caravans have arrived on land situated off Grosvenor Grange, Woolston Grange Industrial estate. The authorities are aware and will take the appropriate action to have them removed. Any anti social behaviour should be reported to the Police via calling 101. Davy51
It seems they are not the only group either (unless these are part of of the others and they got lost) Cheshire Police Alert email from yesterday afternoon Just call 101 & they will turn up when they have nothing better to do. I must say though we had some turned up near us last Christmas & they wrong footed the council in fine style.....they bought the land at auction & moved in over the Christmas period when the council was closed for official matters. They had however applied to eventually erect houses on the site but are still living in the most magnificent mobile homes you have ever seen. I think it may be a 99 year eventuality to build on the site but they do seem decent hard working people & keep the place tidy.
Bazj
Maybe they could turn the Stockton Heath tip site into a permanent traveller site.... now that would prompt some flak!!
wolfie
Strange how they are all experts at Human Rights laws but know bugger all about planning laws.
Eagle
They are all on their way to a wedding on Anglesey, there are believed to be more on the way. An error in the front page report, local people cleared up the site not council workmen.
Dizzy
Maybe they could turn the Stockton Heath tip site into a permanent traveller site.... now that would prompt some flak!! You shouldn't joke about things like that Baz as we've just been to the local shop not far from Stockton Heath and unless I'm mistaken the filthy (ie very dirty and scruffy) young lads outside with their kids, waiting for all their young ladies who were inside, were travellers. Hard to mistake the accent really but 'maybe' they weren't. Definately not ones from the permanent camp at Walton though as we see most of those in the shops and they are quite smart and are actually quite nice people. They never cause any trouble but they have been there for years and the chap who runs/own the site takes no messing.

Well Anglesey from Warrington towing a van at legal speed only takes about 2 hours so they should have been made to keep going AFTER picking up all their own crap !! Bazj
but they won't Dizzy because they have human rights and councils and the authorities bend over backwards to help them (unless they happen to be camped on a village green somewhere).... why weren't they not only escorted off the green, but escorted completely out of the town boundaries by the police? Allowing them to move a few hundred yards up the road smacks a bit of "well that got them off here anyway" kind of attitude Time they took a tough stand against these thugs and thieves that call themselves travellers.... they only travel to find new places to steal from. inky pete
If they left a mess which needed cleaning up after them (having only been there a matter of hours!) how come they aren't being prosecuted for littering?
Ann Raymond
If they left a mess which needed cleaning up after them (having only been there a matter of hours!) how come they aren't being prosecuted for littering? Don't you have to have a permanent address to be served with prosecution? Travellers, like every section of the community, can be good, bad or indifferent. I remember as a child having a group of travellers camped on derelict land a few hundred yards from our house. My mother was the only resident who would help them by filling up two big canisters with fresh water each day. A little boy who was about the same age as me (10 or 11) came to collect them and one day invited me to see his caravan. I was very impressed. It was clean and tidy and had a TV! When they left, the 'lead' caravan stopped them all outside our house to thank us for helping them. I have, of course, over many years also seen the disgraceful state that temporary sites can be left in and I do worry about their treatment of their animals. I have also, when teaching, had traveller children in my class. Once again, some families were lovely and really interested in their children's education while others were apathetic and occasionally abusive - just like families who live in houses! 2
Eagle
They are now camped on private land, the owner should demand that the police use whatever is necessary to shift them.
inky pete
Don't you have to have a permanent address to be served with prosecution? The police were in attendence, must have witnessed the offences being committed and both could and should have issued on the spot penalties or made arrests there and then.
