  1. ...and I'd also dispute whether losing in the last three minutes thanks to the decisions of a referee who, by all accounts from both sides, had selective vision, can really be thought of as a loss and be commented on in that way
  2. This is the first time I've read this forum in weeks. What a load of rubbish gets spouted on here, I'm shaking my head in disbelief at some of the things written here. Robocop, I think that goes a long way to explain why no one has commented on here, a number of us, including myself, have been praising the team on supporters Facebook and twitter forums, on a well deserved win and a class performance
  3. This season we have been playing a direct style of passing, and moving the ball to the forwards and wingers quickly - note this is not 'hoofball.' Sadly, those balls were played rather aimlessly on Saturday, which meant we held hardly any possession. In any case, if we play 'hoof ball' and win 1-0 every week, I don't care. We are in the division to win it, not to play pretty football and be back here next season. The table is ranked on points and results, not the 'quality' of football. And anyway, hoof ball is as good as Barcalona type play if you win! Sadly, the game could've been so different - the two first half goals were down to individual mistakes - cut those out and we go in nil nil with the wind behind us in the second half and its suddenly a very different game. Take nothing away from Curzon though who really turned the screw in the second half
  4. Oh my word, it sounds like the end of the world is about to happen! I'll nip the shop once I've written this and go and buy a stash of tinned food to keep me going until I'm rescued... In all seriousness, someone reading this from the outside might think we were about to be relegated or something, the doom and gloom is unbelievable. Footy fan, while I do think centre midfield is an area in our team that we could improve, there are a hell of a lot of teams in this league who are weaker in this area than us. Look at the league table - the only piece of data that matters - and you will find that everyone has done a great job so far this season, long may it continue...
  5. Back to the topic of the strikes, could someone please tell me why having your pay frozen for the first time in 16 years is good reason to have not just one, but SEVEN 24 hour strikes? As a passenger, I have zero sympathy with the drivers at all, especially as I had to make alternative arrangements to get to work yesterday thanks to the no show
  6. Can only add an honourable mention for Chris Gahgan. He was several people's pick for man of the match behind the goal, not just for his work on the ball but off it too. Unless I'm very much mistaken, it was his closing down and his tackle that have us possession for one of our goals
  7. Completely agree with Toby. I would much rather we played friendlies against that quality of opposition and took the heavy defeats because we learn more from that than playing a NWCFL or Cheshire League team and dishing out a hammering ourselves. What some posters are, I think, missing is that the point of preseason friendlies is that we learn something and on Saturday, we will have learnt a hell of a lot about the team as a whole and individuals, and know a good few things we need to work on, and therefore it was a successful exercise.
  8. Out of interest, is anyone on here able to make a decent judgement on the difference in the standard between the north and south division? I've always been told the South is a much lower standard, but having never been to a South game I'm not really in a position to comment properly myself...
  9. Would be great to see more of the youth team lads. Who remembers that Dylan Glass goal against Mossley? On a practical note - if a number of the lads have turned 18 this season, how many of them are we going to lose in late September because they are moving away to go to Uni? Burgerman, not many at this level at all, in our league I can only think of New Mills, although there is a North West Counties Reserve league where I think a lot of NWCFL teams enter squads
  10. But there is also no team that has drawn more than us (11 games, three teams have also drawn 11 times). It should be remembered that in terms of points for the league table, three draws is as good and as much use as a win and two defeats.
  11. I do think we need to keep the manager. However, I can understand why people are calling for him to go. When you walk in and are quoted at a supporters club Q and A as saying that he didn't expect to be manager at the end of the season if we weren't promoted, then expectations are going to higher, and there is inevitably going to be frustration and disappointment when such a target isn't met. Undoubtedly, I am just as disappointed as anyone that our playoff chances are now very small, especially with how much weaker the league is in comparison to previous years. However, I don't think chopping the manager is necessarily going to be a quick fix for next season. I'd say we are in a very similar position to last season. Like last season, playoff chances are slim, and also like last season, we have a team that, with some refinement, has an excellent chance of playoffs or maybe even better next season. It's now a case of whether we want to stick, or twist, as we did last season by sacking Joey and appointing Shaun. I think if we ended up replacing Shaun, next season would just be another one like this one - and promotion wouldn't necessarily follow. We have a better chance of promotion by allowing Shaun to continue to work with a team which will become more settled over time in my opinion.
  12. Agree with much of what Adrian and Robocop have said. The service to the forwards wasn't there because the passing was poor in midfield. there was one shot over the bar from 25 yards and one free kick straight at the goalkeeper by my count. We didn't get hold of the game in that area, the only opportunities create we're through Ash Ruane, and of course he had to be taken off early. He was the only player who provided width and pace, he's very important to us from that perspective. I think when Townson came on we changed to a 4-3-3 - don't think this helped because the service didn't improve, we then just had three men isolated up front rather than two. It meant one extra man in the midfield for Skem who at that point were able to get hold of the game and start creating all those opportunities in the last 20/25 minutes. Think it's fair to say that there was a lot more fight and spirit in the team than there was on New Year's Day, which was a big positive. They'll need that in Lancaster, it's a difficult place to go
  13. Re football, rather than wading into the other arguments that are going on here, Lairds outplayed us and we offered nothing until Ash Ruane came on and injected a bit of pace. Phil Doran is the only other who can come out of that with any credit. Lairds played better football, played the conditions better, and wanted it much much more than we did. We lost because we were outplayed and bought nothing to the table in response. End of. Here's hoping for better on Saturday.
  14. Just seems such a crying shame to waste such a good first half performance! In the first half, we looked fitter, and both tactically and technically better. In the second half, I dont know quite what happened. Yes, we weren't helped by a referee who made poor decisions for both teams for the duration of the game. However, we could have easily led by more than three at half time, and by that point, the game should really have been done and dusted
  15. It appears many of us have been watching a different Mark Beesley to you good sir... I think if the club can extend his loan, they should try their best to do so! And I'm sure the player would rather stay here and get a game rather than being a sub for Nantwich
