  4. St. Mary’s Warrington is delighted to host the first choral workshop by James Macmillan in the North West. This is a rare opportunity for singers of all ages - from beginners to professionals - to work with one of the UK’s foremost composers, and explore a selection of his sacred and secular works. James Macmillan is one of today’s most successful living composers and is also internationally active as a conductor. His musical language is flooded with influences from his Scottish heritage, Catholic faith, social conscience, and close connection with Celtic folk music, blended with influences from Far Eastern, Scandinavian, and Eastern European music. See www.stmaryswarrington.org.uk/workshop for more information
  5. Ha, well considering we usually end up in the pub afterwards, probably not!
  6. Well said! Mind you it's Tuesday morning, so maybe you can
  7. Everyone can sing, given the right training
  8. St. Mary's choir is open to all boys and girls from age 6. Currently there are about 20 members. Rehearsals are on Thursdays at 6.30pm - 7.30pm, and the choir often sing on Sunday at 11am High Mass at St. Mary's. Choir club opens at 6pm on Thursdays, where the children can come and play games, inside or out, before rehearsals, and during the break. While it is a Church choir, there is no requirement to be a Catholic, or to attend Church (apart from when the choir are singing!) and the choir often partake in other events: recently they have sung at St. Chad's Cathedral in Birmingham, a concert with Manchester Philharmonic, and a concert in Walton Gardens, and are also sometimes asked to sing at Weddings around Warrington, (for which a small fee is paid to each member) There is no audition for the choir, and no previous experience is necessary. All that is required is an ability to work hard - and play hard when required! For more information email music@stmaryswarrington.org.uk
  9. Do you sing in the bath? Whilst doing the hoovering? Wandering around the golf course? If you have always wanted to sing, but never plucked up enough courage to have a go, here is your opportunity! You don’t have to be able to read music and you won’t be asked to sing on your own or take an audition. Laudate is an ideal opportunity for non-singers (or people who haven’t done any singing for a while) to experience the joys of choral singing, in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Everyone is welcome, so come along on Tuesday 6 September at 10.45am to St. Mary's Buttermarket Street, and give it a try! For more information email music@stmaryswarrington.org.uk
