pommie lass

Recommended Posts

For the umpteenth time I am trying to find out if anyone knows the whereabouts of Wendy Collins.  She lived in Richmond Avenue, Latchford int he early 60's and went to Warrington Girls' High School.  I don't know what her married name is if she has one. Hopefully this time the right person will read this.

Good idea re facebook too PJ as I've seen quite a few topics about the High School for Girls on some of the local groups I'm on and quite a lot of people say they went there when they see photos of the high school or people that went so maybe others on those groups might remember the lady and her family and are still in touch.

If you are on facebook pommie lass ask on these local groups, they are all very good and with so many people from Warrington on them you never know.

I have searched facebook and there is no mention of a Wendy Collins from Warrington

Chances are she may have married so might not post under her maiden name if by chance she is a member of facebook.

I've tried searching on ancestry to see if I can find a lady with that first and maiden name in someones online family tree but no luck so far :(

Oooh do you recognise the ladies name  Hill Cliffe Walker ? :D :D

No Dizzy, but I found on Ancestry that she was born in Warrington in 1946.

When I put this info in Genes Reunited - she was there, with the name Wendy Whitehead, to message.

I couldn't get beyond this though, so I have messaged her - but there's no guarantee that she will see it.

1946 was the only birth record I could find too for anyone with the name Wendy Collins born in Warrington (mothers maiden name shown as Rawes).   That's presuming of course that the one we are looking for WAS actually born in Warrington, after all she might not have been)
I can't find a marriage for her parents Collins + Rawes though.  I was hoping if I could then I might be able to find her siblings names etc which could lead to contact.

If as you say she IS the lady who married a Whitehead I can only find 2 marriage records (on Find My Past) with the names as follows

Wendy Collins married Colin M Whitehead in 1966, in Weymouth Dorset

Wends S Collins married Stephen G Whitehead in 1981, in Rochdale  (it cant be this one as the birth record doesn't show the initial S, but like I said we may be presuming she was born in Warrington  pommie lass may know more though re that and her families names and can tell us)

Shame those marriages don't give an age

Sadly that is a possibility pommie lass but she may have even divorced and remarried since then too.  If the Whitehead trial is the correct one she would have only been about 20 years old when she got married which is very young so who knows if it lasted or not.

I take it from your reply that you don't know what her parents and/or possible siblings names were at the time you knew her.  That would have really helped but such is life I suppose.

I put her name, dob, maiden name, marriage to Whitehead and also her mums maiden name etc into a tree on ancestry in the hope that it may match up with others but there were no matches at all and still aren't so that's not proving to be any use either.  No deaths or children I can find from those details either so far.  I can't even find a marriage for a Rawes + Collins (her possible parents) on ancestry, find my past or others either.

Saying all that though the way Ancestry works is sometimes a pain and searching on FMP is even worse since they changed it all a year ago.  Very easy NOT to find things these days even things that you KNOW existed cos you've seen them before the changes grr.

I have also searched the available telephone directories for the 50s/60'son Ancestry/FMP for any 'Collins' living in Richmond Avenue back then but no luck there either.

Have you asked on any of the facebook links I posted as I'm sure someone somewhere must remember her and her family from Richmond Avenue or like you from college days.

Never give up though as the answer is always out there somewhere :D

Wendy did have 2 sisters who were somewhat older than she was.  One was called Rosie. She was deaf and suffered from Pink disease.  We heard that she died some time after we left Warrington. She wouldn't have been terribly old then, maybe in her 30's.  I can't remember the name of the other sister but I know she was married. Her father's name was William I think as they called him Bill.  I can't remember the mother's name at all.  I do know that she was a seamstress though.  I will ask on fb anyway and see if anyone can help.

...................... and see if anyone can help.

I have helped, but you have NOT read the message I sent to you on the 6th October, 2015.

As a result of me sending her a message on Genes Reunited, Wendy replied asking why someone in Oxford wants to contact her.

On 12th October, 2015, Wendy Whitehead (nee Collins) became a member of this forum.

She now lives in Dorset.

On the top right hand side of this Forum's page are the symbols 'envelope' 'notification'  'your profile' and 'sign out'

You need to click on the 'envelope' symbol to read my message.

I can do no more - it is now up to you to message Wendy via this forum.

This is a public forum, and I recommend that you send her a private message, then the whole wide world will not see it.

Good Luck !!

Wendy has also now contacted with me via the forum Pommie Lass and I have explained to her how to use the forum and how to reply to you either on this topic or via a personal message.

Like Hill Cliffe Walker says check your messages as Wendy may have done that now if she has read my instructions or you could send her a message telling her your actual name too
as all she really knows at the moment is that 'someone' called pommie lass is looking for her.

I have just sent a private message to both Pommie lass, and Wendy Whitehead, in the hope that they are now able to be in private contact with each other.

Wendy - when messages come in for you, at the top of this forum's page, on the right, the envelope symbol will show a red number, which indicates that you have a private message.

With a bit of luck, you will have two waiting for you to read - the one from me, and one from Pommie lass.

Good Luck !!

From Hill Cliffe walker.
