This happens to me far too often and that's why I don't bother posting much these days. It shouldn't matter which browser you use, clicking the post button should never completely delete a post that you may have spent considerable time putting together.

I've just managed to post on the local section but not without issues. Clicked edit to break a wordy post into paragraphs and all ok then realised I had a simple typo but try as I as I may it was impossible to correct.

I still post on several forums all without issues but here is something else!

Hiya Bill and nice to see you posting again after so long even though just to say you have been having some issues.  Hope you are well and enjoying the sunshine :D

This topic and it;s last reply is 3 years old...heck I hope it didn't take you 3 years to manage to post a reply on it ha ha

What browser do you use (I know you say it shouldn't matter and you are right it shouldn't).  I'll try to look into it for you if you can let me know.

I must admit I never have any problems and I use a couple of  browsers depending on what I am using to access the site.  On my desktop I tend to use Chrome but I do use firefox too.  I think my mobile and tablet use Chrome too....but maybe they don't I will check lol

only time i used internet explorer was to download firefox.

the WG website is another problem area using firefox though. if you use adblocker on it it comes up with a message politely asking you to turn it off. if i do turn the adblocker off then clicking on a page makes it hit and miss on how long it will take to load. once loaded then ads that have video content tend to blare out at full volume and appear halfway through the article.

clicking the back button is also a waste of time as the running ads seem to cause the page to load multiple times in the background and so i find it quicker to reload the home page rather than clicking the back button.

still not come across the deleting problem on here, but has occasionally happened on faceache.

Still can't edit anything once I've summitted a post. Clicking edit used to insert the original post into the edit frame but I get nothing.

If I copy and paste into the frame, change things then re submit it says the post has been edited but none of the changes show.

I think buggering about with the edit is at the root of my disappearing posts as I rarely post anything these days without mistakes :(

Well that really messed up. That last one was an attempted copy of what I get when pressing edit although it's displayed it in html or something. The thing is for me there's nowhere to type any corrections just a blank area that is unclickable. No Matter. I'll just have to try and make less mistakes.

How weird especially re you getting the html/other code displayed too.  I've never had anything like that happen.  What browser are you using bill and are you using a PC, mobile or tablet not that I can see why that would make a difference.

Just a thought though....when you are writing your post or editing it have you perhaps clicked on the 'source' button top left of the editor window.   That would make all the code visible to you as you type in the box...obviously when you hit 'submit reply' the code is no longer visible to the reader though.

PS I have just posted that and now I'm editing it too but it still works fine for me regardless of whether I  press the 'source' button or not.

PPS  Editing again.....with (source pressed again and not coming out of that mode)

PPPS Tried all sorts since the above and every time edit works fine for me...you have me beaten Bill lol.

Tues 20th June  Edit...I see the word 'Required' (in RED) at the top of the edit box..this only shows when you are in 'edit post' mode after clicking EDIT on an existing post.  So what will happen when I press 'save' I wonder.

Tues 20th Editing again....it worked fine...and I've just corrected all my typos in the above sentence too oops lol

scratching my head as well dizz. may try using different browsers.

well that was odd. just went to preview mode and tried typing stuff in at random. for some reason one key i pressed took me back to the unread contents page ( page i started on). when i came back to this thread  it restored the reply i was messing with will try that again and see what key i pressed.

done it again. in preview mode pressing backspace send you back to the previous page you were looking at. preview mode will also let you highlight text but not add or remove text. coming back to the thread you were posting on will not show the text you had typed in until you click in the reply box. your previously typed text will then be restored.

this bit entered via the code button which gives you the message hold shift and right click. wonder if that is the reason?

the quote symbol    " is next to the code symbol <> is it possible that you may be using the code symbol when editing instead of the quote one?

EDIT 7th June 07:10 am  just noticed that there is a little red REQUIRED at the top of this just above the options panel. still lets me add and delete text and does not seem to be losing any, can even highlight and change colour.

Edit 7th June 07:21 just thought I would try using IE still seems to work.

edit yet again, this time using google chrome and still not a problem.

Dizzy

No I don't see any html stuff when I click edit it's just that I cant actually edit anything because the edit box is blank.

I'm not clicking on anything other than edit.

Something that may be a clue is the word "REQUIRED" in red near the top of the page? It doesn't say what's required and  I don't ever remember seeing that when things were working correctly.

I'm just using Internet Explorer btw which seems perfectly fine for all the other forums I use.

Don't worry about this though I'll just work around it and at least by not using edit I wont loose anymore posts.

Great to see you Bill :)  Hope your problems can be resolved. I have three different browsers, IE, Firefox and Chrome, all work fine and editing stuff is straight forward so I don't knpw why any of you are having problems?

But I am sure Dizzy will resolve them for you - Dizzy there is a forum upgrade challenge for you which may help :)

Hi Garry

Well I'm baby sitting  in Liverpool today using a completely different PC but still cant edit anything.

Nobody seems picked up on the word "REQUIRED" that I see shown in red. I'm sure that never used to be there????

Bill :)

On my laptop now running Chrome and yet again can't edit.

Still getting the red "REQUIRED"

That's four different PCs with different browsers so I'm starting to wonder if there's something within the forum settings that's blocking me from using edit ??

Bill :)

Edited no problem using firefox, sid. (i see the required in red above the post being edited. you do not get that with a new post)
