Adam
So I am not the only one who thinks most popular music written today is terrible. Just how long Tony Bennett has held this view I don't know, but I would say the rot set in during the early Fifties.
Dizzy
In all fairness he is 88 though Adam and I can't think of anyone that age who would say they like most of today's music or genres :lol:It's just one mans own personal view though at the end of the day which he is entitled to of course...... Adam
Yes Dizzy, but I think we are talking about something more than the usual and understandable "generation gap" that exists in popular music. Tony Bennett is well qualified to talk about this issue. He was never one of my own favourites, but you don't keep going like he has unless you are getting something right. He blames the record companies for aiming only at the young and surely we all know that the young have appalling taste in music. I know I did! I blame the lack of a proper musical education in the schools. If they employed teachers as ill qualified to teach science as they do music teachers ill qualified to teach music there would be an uproar. Eagle
Tony Bennett should be put out to pasture instead of turning up regularly telling everyone how good he was, and that is debatable, he sold the music of his era which is long gone. He obviously thrives on sympathetic applause and the occasional plaudit from people who come posing on forums. If he is surprised that the music industry is giving young people what they want then he is more senile than he looks. How many people want another "Tony's Greatest Christmas" in their collections. Dizzy
Can't say I particularly like his voice or music either Adam but some of it is ok. He did a good version of 'The Lady is a Tramp' with Lady Gaga though. She's modern day and it didn't stop him singing with her As for the young having 'appalling taste' in music and 'proper musical education' well we've been here many times Adam so no point in me saying what I think or like again.PS I'm 50 this year (aaargh and shhhhh)... I wonder if I'll start hating all modern stuff too then... naah forever young with an open mind and ears unplugged to whatever takes my fancy or makes my feet tap when I hear it...
