  1. Your viagra ones may have disappeared as well lol 😁
  2. I have just manually approved half a dozen new members - although it is difficult to work out whether they are spammers are not - other than by location and the spam programme we use. Please message me if anyone dodgy starts spamming - other than the usual culprits lol. Since Dizzy became busy (on facebook) it is hard to keep track of everything.
  3. A little before my time but we did run an obituary on Willie https://www.warrington-worldwide.co.uk/2021/10/26/death-of-former-wire-skipper-and-stand-off-willie-aspinall/
  4. Like many news organisations we are a relatively small team with a huge work load covering a wide area - but we try our best to keep the public informed and the council and others accountable while being balanced and fair. It is nice to know when our work is appreciated so thank you.
  5. Nothing to do with us - although I have experienced when using chrome. Just keep supporting the adverts to help keep the free news service though
  6. Well firstly I am delighted some people have noticed - i suspect more desk top users than mobile - as nearly all websites look pretty much the same on a mobile phone - a long list of stories on your screen. Tweaks are still ongoing before I am totally satisfied - but the overall attempt was to freshen it up and make it easier to read, despite the large number of adverts (to pay some overheads). The social media links are back. We have also now become a partner of Taboola who work with the "big boys" on advertising platforms, as well as the usual google ones. We have made significant ongoing investment to bring these improvements and it is still our aim to bring a totally free news service alongside our free magazines. I think we can safely say we are now the only fully free daily news service in Warrington. While the pandemic has been terrible it actually benefited our online business generating an increase of 168 per cent in online revenues, although from a relatively modest starting point. If we achieve the same growth in the next 12 months - we will be flying! While we have streamline dour print media from 6-3 - the remaining ones are starting to see advertising growth.
  7. I have asked Ofgem to keep me posted. https://www.warrington-worldwide.co.uk/2021/11/01/council-satisfied-non-payment-of-12-5m-renewables-obligations-is-in-best-interest-of-together-energy/
  8. Just completed another forum upgrade and validated some new member applications - so please keep your eyes peeled for any issues!
  9. I can remember a time many moons ago when a Man Utd v Liverpool game would have created tribal warfare on this forum! Mind you what used to be a titanic battle on the pitch between two of the world's biggest sporting brands - has now become a little one-sided. I have to admit beating United 5-0 while very pleasing the highlight was seeing Ronaldo's goal chalked off for off-side!
  10. Lovely to hear from you R and glad to know you still read our news pages - which is actually the whole point of our website I can remember getting frustrated in the past when everyone used to live in here more often than reading the news lol - now saldy a lot of people still live in social media world where everything is here today - gone in a micro second!
  11. What do people think of the council's investment strategy? Plenty being said on social media - but nothing on here.
  12. A true gentleman who i had the pleasure of meeting on several occasions over the years. He was always supportive of Warrington Town, signing shirts for the club several times. Last time I saw him was on Warrington town's famous FA Cup run.
  13. Nice to know Reader is still going strong - from memory a gentleman with a first name beginning with R. Did he divulge why we had lost him?
  14. Nope - the jokes section in particular allegedly contains some politically incorrect stuff which has been deemed offensive
  15. I've done two forum upgrades in the space of a week - hopefully no teething problems!
  16. Staycations for me until the day you can get back on a plane as normal! https://news.sky.com/story/covid-19-total-chaos-at-uk-airports-on-busiest-weekend-this-year-with-covid-checks-and-lack-of-staff-blamed-12363202
  17. I know Warrington has a long history of munitions - but was surprised to see a local company not only still operating but updating!
  18. Good to see the return of the Warrington Regatta - the event has a long history in our town. Warrington Regatta
  19. Unfortunately the more members, the more running costs and the more hassle for me as Dizzy rarely appears these days (Not having a go as I know she is very busy working and on facebook ) Because of the millions of spammers who try and join the joining process is fairly rigorous and we don't even allow people with gmail accounts to join. Every now and again someone emails in saying please let them join, we go to the trouble of manually creating their account - and guess what they rarely ever post and are not seen again. We are also undergoing a revamp of the main site and our web developers have said the forum could drag the reputation of the site down because ITHO there are some racist and not politically correct posts on the forum which could damage our reputation. You have to remember around 90 pc of you fall into the Grumpy Old Men category these days (probably me included). So is anyone willing to come on board as a moderator and share the responsibilty and the legal fees? Even with the adverts this forum costs best part of £1k a year to run and maintain properly - and the more members it gets the more expensive it gets. The vast majority of our forum membersm, being grumpy old men also have ad blocker on so the returns are almost non existence towards the running costs.
  20. Wire seem to be developing a pattern when playing the underdog - without realising every dog has its day!
  21. https://www.warrington-worldwide.co.uk/2021/05/26/public-health-chief-urges-people-to-be-vigilant-as-indian-variant-cases-confirmed-in-warrington/
  22. So the mighty Manchester United finished one place above the "worst defending champions of all time" who stuffed them at the Theatre of Clowns in the most recent encounter when United fielded their strongest team! They go on to represent our country in a European Final and get beaten by a team from a town of 50,000 people who haven't ever won a trophy before and get beaten on penalties by a goalscoring goalkeeper! The future looks great!
  23. Thankfully no recorded Indian variants in Warrington as yet and positive tests at an equal all time low since records began . https://www.warrington-worldwide.co.uk/2021/05/21/positive-covid-19-tests-in-warrington-at-equal-lowest-level-since-pandemic-data-started/
