  1. Everyone assumes that attacking an embassy or consulate breaks the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, like you did Obs. The Iranians should take it up with Syria because the Convention is purely bi-lateral and the Israelis were committing something but it was wasn't breaking that convention because the establishment was not in Israel. There is a lot of inventing effects of International law going on these days. It often assumes someone has the power to intervene and punish one party or another which isn't always true. (See Putin)
  2. That was not what I said, I said that the taking out of drones was most likely done by aircraft. No weapons system has a 100% success rate, ever. So I didn't say anything other that the fact of how many did get through. You suggest that they got through and swamped the iron dome. That is not at all clear, Iron Dome is for protecting civilian concentrations as I understand it and did seem to work. I think the pictures around were the of the system working near Jerusalem. There has been plenty of practice over the years and it is worth remembering that the launchers are mobile. Iran does not have hypersonic missiles, that's your mates in Russia who say they have those, as do the Chinese.
  3. On reporting that Iran "meant to fail" in its attack, and that it had given advanced warning of its strikes, Mr Kirby (US National Security Council spokesman) says this is "categorically false". Over 300 devices launched 7 got through. Drones are an asymmetric threat but you need to understand that you have used a falsehood to determine what lesson is to be learned. The key difference was surely that there was a two hour transit time for the drones and they had to cross friendly airspace during that time. The launch would have been detected by an AWACS and fighter jets used to take the drones out at lower cost than you believe, since the target tracking will have been airborne. The situation is entirely different from Ukraine where air superiority between launch point and the targets is not in the hands of the defender.
  4. I just had a look at the planning site and the latest application was submitted on the 8th April. It includes a lot of stuff on the south end of the site but it does not include the remaining cooling towers. That will presumably wait until the things they might fall on including dirty bits and storage tanks have been taken away. The application is 2024/00440/DEM if you are bored. It is not in the least interesting,
  5. It wasn't behind a paywall when I looked. The Independent is indeed owned by Evgeny Lebedev who was born in Russia.
  6. Thanks for that Bill. One of my annoyances on GUIs was the IBM button marked Done, never knew what to make of it and why it wasn't OK. I often thought it really meant "I give up".
  7. Given the source and where you read it I think what it tells you is that it is an election year. Expect a constant stream about the poor in the public services. What needs to happen is for you to recognise bias in the press wherever it is and treat it accordingly. I got taught this at secondary school, but today's teachers are perhaps not able to do this for themselves let alone teach it without bias.
  8. Thanks Gary, It is the only place where you can air views of your own choosing. Other social media forces you to follow everyone else's flow and that is am important benefit of this forum. Congratulations on 25 years of the local news service which has integrity, and us readers can tell. The different in professionalism and tone between Worldwide and Newsquest is palpable and I appreciate it greatly.
  9. You are probably engaged in wishful thinking. The Ukrainians have taken down the Russian Landing Craft fleet with drones and surface to ship missiles, all made in Ukraine itself by the way. I don't see what the Russians can expect of a flotilla of small river boats with soldiers firing rifles. You will not have seen video of what the hunter drones operated by Ukraine do but it isn't pretty.
  10. Since we can test your pontification in five weeks time you had better say which Dvina River you mean, there being two. Both in Russia, one halfway between Moscow and St Petersburg and the other near Archangelsk. If it turns out you are wrong will you just give the I love Russia thing a miss in future?
  11. Every one of your so called Independent experts has a grudge to push. I looked at Napolitano's nonsense about targeting Taurus missiles and the whole thing is not true. Essentially a targeting system can be created in which NATO members can exercise a veto on the targets for Taurus missiles which requires no in country presence. If I was designing it it wouldn't require supplying intelligence either. He didn't tell me anything other than he was ignorant.
  12. Speculation and made up conjecture again as usual.
  13. Nothing will come out with time because the Russians continue to make up history and change it to fit the current narrative. They don't know that telling lies all the time is not everyone's preferred way of behaving. Nuland resigned from the State Department on the 5th March. The cause of the attack by IS is the behaviour of Russian forces in Syria are they going to take Putin down themselves?
  14. Quite likely, the Tajiks are and oppressed and poor minority in Russia. They are treated very badly and subject to significant official harassment. There is nothing but stereotyping in that remark. Well no. The Turks have detained 40 IS suspects in Istanbul, they are not linked to the Moscow attacks. Turkey has detained another 2,733 IS suspects since June 2023 so it is business as usual for them. One of the Moscow accused released photos of himself in Istanbul on Instagram during February. One showed him at a mosque in Istanbul. This is from the Russian News domestic news agency Ria Novosti (so will be subject to Kremlin pressure to make links - and so not trusted) but the Instagram account can be fact checked. However it proves nothing yet and certainly not what you inferred. Another unnamed Russian source quoted on MSN said that the one photographed went to Turkey because his Russian visa had run out, Tajiks do not need a visa to enter Russia. (this leads to further doubts on the veracity of the reports) Taking it out on Turkey would be a big mistake Please note that your post is conjecture and Fake News. Try not to do it all the time.
  15. There is no Villa in Florida, it is another made up story from your mates in Moscow. Do explain how an IS terror attack is Western inspired - you really do just spread the malicious Russian propaganda without any critical thought whatsoever. The story keeps changing because they are making it up as they go along, it is a classic pattern that tells you it is a fraud. The warning about an IS attack was passed to the Russian security council but they didn't take it seriously. That is why it took the security forces over and hour to get to the scene. The assailants were apprehended near to Belarus, they were going the wrong way to get to Ukraine. In any case it should be obvious to anyone but a Russian that crossing a border to a combatant state is a mite tricky. The Russians said that there was an open window for them, then rowed back when they realised that the window would be on the Russian side not the Ukrainian one. All non-biased observers have understood that the story is a pile of horse manure.
